The Experience

Drink in the view from the elevated suite terrace. From sunrise to sunset it’s breathtaking. Almost all the rooms face the sea, which sweeps from Cinque Terre to Portofino. Soak in the hot tub, sit under the pines, help make cakes in the historic kitchen. It’s so relaxing you’ll want to stay put.

This secluded, recently renovated 1800s villa has fruit trees, a vegetable garden and an olive grove, so look forward to beautiful breakfasts on the veranda facing the sea. Michele and his family used to spend every summer here. Now he and his mother are sharing its beauty.

End the day with a delicious ‘aperitivo cena’ or go out for dinner; Ristorante Belvedere in tiny Santa Guilia is a stroll away. If you delight in the lights of Lavagna, wind down the twisting road to Osteria I’ Toscano and enjoy good rustic cuisine.

The neighbourhood

Secluded from its neighbours, the house stands high about the port-resort of Lavagna, a 4.4km drive downhill, or a 45-minute hike. The walking round here may be a challenge, but the views are worth every step! If you fancy beaches, Michele can offer beach club discounts. Wander round the elegant Casa Carbone, or take the boat to Portofino (1 hour). The coastal train brings you to Genoa in 40 minutes, loved for its aquarium and its palazzi. The 17th-century gardens of the Villa Durazzi (in Genoa Pegli) are enchanting.

Local points of interest from Michele Roncam

  • Looking out of the window or sitting in the garden, enjoy the beauty of the sunrise or the sunset over the sea, deeply immersed in nature surrounded by the singing of blackbirds and the smell of flowers in bloom. This is Olivenere.
  • Take a sunhat and towel and go for a swim in the sea. Some steps lead straight to the white beach of Cavi through the old mule track amongst olive trees, vegetable gardens and traditional stone houses offering little glimpses of the sea.
  • If you want to visit Cinque Terre and Portofino, we will take you to Lavagna where you could either go by train or ferry to visit these locations part of the World Heritage or to hike along the beautiful coastal paths.
  • Learn how to make pesto with us! From picking the scented basil leaves from our gardens to the secrets of the preparation with the mortar and pestle following the traditional recipe. Take our tradition back home with you!
  • Visit Casa Carbone a 10 minute-drive from Olivenere (part of the Italian national trust, FAI) to discover the life of the middle-class families of the late 1800s in Lavagna. A timeless location, where every detail tells the story of the last century.
  • Spend a week with us to discover an unexpected Liguria, far from over- tourism, for a slow and relaxed holiday. Visit Lavagna and its cathedral, follow the paths of the old Valle dei Mulini, the route of black gold.

Michele Roncam

The villa has been in Michele's family for three generations. He opened its doors in 2018, his chief desire being that each and every guest has the most relaxing holiday ever. On hand from early till late to help and advise, Michele lives next door. He hopes that one day his brothers will join him in his adventure.
