Oozing tranquillity, it could be a setting for a film, so private is it with its gorgeous views over green hills and down to the sea. Once you reach tiny Dosso, leave the car and walk intrepidly down the short steep path to the B&B. You are surrounded by olive groves and pocket vineyards, yet Levanto is only four kilometres away. A pretty pebbled square and a stone arch form the entrance to this 1700s casa padronale, fully restored with the soft-ochre façade and dark green shutters so typical of Liguria. The panoramic terrace is a fine place for breakfast or an aperitif and Cecilia is happy for guests to have their own picnics here. Relax in the sitting room with a book from the small library, breakfast at round tables in the rustic taverna. Bright and generous bedrooms, two with sea views, have timber beams; all are comfortably furnished with wrought-iron beds and warmed by gentle shades of yellow. Modern bathrooms use solar-heated water. Siblings Cecilia and Carlo, a local surfing hero, are shy but natural hoteliers and are both supporters of the Slow Food movement so they know the best places for dinner.

Absolutely superb. From the moment we arrived the friendly team made us feel welcome, providing lots of useful information and advice. We had room 2 which is lovely and airy and has terrific views down the valley to Levanto. The house is really charming and tastefully decorated. Carlo and Francesco are great hosts and very interesting to talk to. The breakfasts, served on the terrace in good weather are super with everything one could wish for all presented brilliantly. We stayed for 6 nights and would recommend to any of our friends and family seeking a lovely restful stay.

My stay at L'Antico Borgo was made very special for the kindness and dedication of the management. The Villa and its rooms are elegant yet relaxed. The beds are very comfortable, linens just lovely and the entire place is spotless. The location is strategic for exploring the area yet it still feels like a secret hideaway. Quiet reigns. Breakfast is generous and delicious and how nice to enjoy it "al fresco", with stunning views onto the hills and Ligurian sea. Carlo and Francesco's tips on where to eat and walk and swim were precious and made my stay there even more memorable.

Above Levanto we stayed in L’Antico Borgo at Dosso which we found on your list. We have briefly stayed there some years ago and this time we were there for 5 nights. It is the most wonderfully peaceful and romantic little hotel which we just cannot praise enough. the rooms are delightful and everywhere is always pristine, the breakfast is great and the best thing of all is the staff, especially Carlo himself and Francesco who we feel are now friends. A brilliant find and the essence of Sawday’s.

From the moment we arrived in this amazing hilltop location we were made to feel at home by Carlo and Francesco. Our bright and spacious room afforded a beautiful view down the valley to Levanto and the Ligurian Sea beyond. The hearty breakfasts on the terrace set us up nicely for our daily coastal walks and Carlo was extremely helpful in helping us plan our routes. The recommendation of the local restaurant- Antiga Ustaia Zita, 1km down the valley road- was an added bonus! We were so sad to leave but our thanks go to Caecilia and Carlo for a wonderful stay in their beautiful property

L'Antico Borgo is a really friendly B&B with hotel standard service. Carlo and Francesco are charming and incredibly helpful. The house is beautiful and filled with antiques and paintings. We had room 2 which was lovely and has fantastic views down to the sea. You have the same view from the terrace at breakfast with Francesco's home baked pastries (amongst much else). In fact the location is key - the Cinque Terre is overrun with tourists and the B&B is back in the hills in a peaceful little village of typical Ligurian painted houses, with a crazily cheap family-run restaurant 1km away.
