The Experience

Olive groves, vines and orchards surround this tranquil agriturismo in the Morainic Hills. Lorenzo and Giovanna have transformed her family’s old mill into a lovely retreat for foodies, cyclists and walkers. Charming apartments and B&B rooms are divided between the main house, built in the 1950s, and a single-storey barn conversion. All have exposed beams, stone floors and colourful bedspreads, while Lorenzo’s expressive paintings brighten the walls.

En-suite bathrooms are spacious and modern, with fluffy towels and walk-in showers. Every room opens on to an outdoor seating area perfect for sipping an aperitif as the sun sets. A generous breakfast buffet including fruit, bread and homemade cakes, is served at glass tables in the large restaurant or under the shade of the pergola. Dinners are creative and delicious.

Outside, there’s a pool and acres of grounds. Hike through the Parco del Mincio, visit Lake Garda or pop to Verona.

Reviews

From the scents of the herbs on arrival to the delicious wine alongside Lorenzo's tasting menu, you're in for a treat. Be as active as you like with a large pool and bikes to hire - you may need to if you indulge in Lorenzo's feasts! Visit Borghetto, a pretty village nearby, to try the tortellini (pumpkin with sage butter was my favourite).

Location

The neighbourhood

It's a 10km drive to Borghetto, a beautiful authentic village on the river Mincio. Here you can visit the Ponte Visconteo and, in June, join the festival of Love Knots. Climb to the top of Scaligero Castle for huge views. There are also plenty of restaurants and shops. Lake Garda is 10kms for boat trips to the little islands, or sunset cruises, or simply a bike ride in amongst spectacular flora.

Local points of interest from Giovanna Vischioni

  • Lake Garda is within 10 km.
  • Historical cities like Brescia, Mantua and Verona are less than 40 km away.
  • Castellaro Lagusello, Borghetto and Valeggio sul Mincio are considered among the most beautiful villages in Europe. In Valeggio sul Mincio you can also eat the best tortellini in the world.
  • Many beautiful golf courses nearby.
  • Milan and Venice are an hour and half away by train or car.
  • Visit the vineyards of Lugana or Costoza.

Introducing

Giovanna Vischioni

The lovely Giovanna worked in travel and returned to revive her family's farm. Lorenzo is a Michelin star chef, artist, architect and opened his restaurant, the Muliner, in 2010. You'll see his flair in the dishes he creates and the art in the restaurant and the bedrooms. You're also looked after by a small but very friendly and efficient staff.
