The Experience

The pretty stone cottage with twin bedrooms once housed the wood oven. La Casetta dates back to the 1700s and has been seamlessly extended by Peter and Richard; it is simple, charming, and surprisingly spacious. Separate from the main house, it faces the opposite way, with wonderful rolling views across farmland and to mountains. It is bliss to spill into your own private garden with a pergola covered in roses and a fig tree to plunder; all this yours, and – beyond a leafy arch – box hedges guarding herbs and lavender. Back inside are peachy curtains and two checked sofas, an open fireplace and lovely low beams: a warm inviting place to hole up in in winter. The kitchen is proper country-style, a delight to work in, but if you wish to shed your chef’s apron there are restaurants in Frontone, and in medieval Cagli, three miles away. Urbino and Gubbio, sensational ‘città d’arte’, are a half-hour drive; beaches are not much further. Peter and Richard, who have written guides about Italy, have a library of books for guests to borrow. Hard to imagine more generous – or good-humoured – hosts.

Reviews

Spent seven nights at Le Casetta. Loved the location and views from the farmhouse. We loved being able to see the castle in Frontone all lit up on a night while sat in the garden. Peter and Richard were the perfect hosts. Very helpful and knowledgeable about the locality. Thank you both for your advice. Good restaurants nearby. We loved it here and would not hesitate to recommend it to our friends.

Simon and Jenny, Shrewsbury

La Casetta more than lived up to expectations. The house has been sympathetically restored, retaining plenty of traditional charm, and has great views across the rolling countryside. It proved a most relaxing and comfortable place for our stay. The owners Peter and Richard live next door and were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. It's a beautiful part of Italy and this is the perfect place to base yourself. There's no pool, but river swimming nearby. Highly recommended.

Charles, London

Lovely house in a peaceful setting. Hosts, Peter and Richard, were very welcoming, providing invaluable information on the region, with excellent recommendations for our family holiday.

Irene, Southampton

Highly recommend to stay here. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Comfortable house and excellent garden area. Ideally situated for walks and travel to historic towns in area.
