The Experience

There’s a timeless, hill-country feel to this dream of an Italian family set-up for sportivos, real foodies, lake-lovers and loafers about. Great big, beamy guest rooms, a lawned and flowery garden, fruit trees to doze under, a barbecue and a play area for the kids – space for all to unwind. Or borrow a bike and pedal off for lunch by Lake Mergozzo; take a picnic on a Nibbio mountain hike, or a guide for a rock-climbing session.

Breakfasts are a real highlight to be lingered over, out in the rose-tumbling courtyard or by a winter log fire. What charming Elenia doesn’t bake, make or grow herself comes from within five kilometres – like the local black bread, butter, goat and cow cheeses.

Your kind hosts offer lifts, cakes and the best advice on vineyards, markets and places to eat. It’s 15-minute drive to Lake Orta, 20 to Lake Maggiore.

Reviews

I highly recommend I Corni Di Nobbio. The warm friendly welcome from Elenia and Patrizio will make you want to stay longer and that's before even trying their amazing breakfasts or sleeping in top quality beds. Bring a book to read in the middle of the fruit orchard or simply close your eyes and relax. Come, enjoy and take advantage of comfortable lodging and Elenia's expert local knowledge.

Location

The neighbourhood

The hamlet of Nibbio has as its dramatic backdrop the Corni di Nibbio mountains, part of the Valgrande National Park and with many rock-climbing, trekking and walking trails. Mergozzo - 1k/5 minutes’ drive away - has Tuesday and Friday markets, shops, a rail station (Stresa 13 mins, London 7hrs) and a great, family-run restaurant: La Pagul. Walk or cycle 5k along the River Toce to Lake Mergozzo with its Michelin-starred Ristorante Piccolo Lago

Local points of interest from Elenia Ciana

  • Valgrande is Italy’s largest wild reserve that can be visited along various trails that pass close to the B&B.
  • LAKE MERGOZZOLake Mergozzo, awarded the orange flag for its clean waters, has know how to keep its natural beauty intact: the beaches, underwater diving, tuff from the Oriola rocks, canoeing and fishing:
  • LAKE MAGGIORE AND ITS ISLANDSIt includes the noble and beautiful islands Isole Borromee, sumptuous Stresa and magnificient villas with their garde
  • ORTA AND ISLAND OF SAN GIULIOThe most illustrious and representative place in the whole area is Orta San Giulio, a small charming medieval town, considered to be one of the most beautiful in the whole of Italy.
  • The Island of San Giulio with its splendid Romanesque basilica and the monastery of the Benedictine order lies suspended over the waters of the lake.
  • Toce Waterfalls. With its drop of 143 meters it is the highest waterfall in Europe and on its summit, a small wooden balcony will allow you to lean over the majestic leap of water.

Introducing

Elenia Ciana

Patrizio’s family have owned this property for all of its 200+ years. He was born here and like his father and grandfather, he’s a blacksmith (do visit his workshop) and with a talented team, completely renovated it to run as a B&B in 2012/13. Wife Elenia, with her background in tourism, is the warmest of hosts and a wonderful cook. Together they grow fruit, veg, and eggs for the table. Their daughter Giorgia loves to play with visiting children
