A peaceful B&B perfectly placed for exploring Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta. In fact the whole of Piedmont is at your feet – although you’ll need a car – and Milan, Turin and Switzerland are all an hour’s drive. Scottish owner, Gillian, runs a B&B in Milan and she knows just how to make guests feel at home: buffet breakfasts of pastries, homemade jams and fresh juices, served on a sunny patio; an abundant flower and tree-filled garden to wander; toys and a dressing up box for kids and plenty of books for grown-ups to borrow. Your family suite in this village farmhouse is light and spacious, with exposed stonewalls, beamed ceilings and practical pine furniture. Gillian has filled her home with interesting bits and pieces: local art, a telescope for star-gazing, ceramic wood-burners. There’s a sweet little twin room for children, a squeaky-clean bathroom and you can access your rooms up a flight of stone steps from the garden. Hike Mottarone and Monte Rosa, head to La Madonna del Sasso for breathtaking views over Lake Orta then back for a chilled glass of wine on the porch with the fire pit blazing.
