Turin: grandiose home to baroque architecture and art, irresistible cafés, divine chocolatiers, prestigious opera house… and capital of the aperitivo. Here, in a respectable residential street in the heart of the old town, is Roberta’s B&B. Up the lift of this very elegant building to a wide landing on the fourth floor and there is Roberta to greet you, with her lovely big smile and infectious laugh. There’s an elegant oval dining table for breakfast, a cluster of shiny blue matching sofa and chairs, a little computer corner and a comforting, comfortable décor. Then there are the guest quarters on the floor above, high under the eaves, reached by a wooden open-tread stair. Expect three big, friendly, generous, traditional rooms, all polished antiques, gleaming floors, patterned rugs and easy chairs. The suite has its own little terrace, looking right down to the courtyard below, and the bathrooms are excellent, with showers and baths, bottles of shampoo, coloured towels. Roberta is super-organised, loves the city, loves her B&B, knows all there is to know. You could not be in better hands.
