The Experience

Outdoor lovers rejoice. You’re on the edge of the Murgia National Park, home to a vast array of stunning flora and fauna, that you can hike, cycle and horse ride through. Strike out to World Heritage Site Castel del Monte, a 13th century castle and citadel. Go wine or cheese tasting; visit coastal towns Polignano and Trani.

You stay in what was once the farm workers’ dwellings, now transformed along sustainable principles into a five bedroom guesthouse. Your hosts live on the ground floor and the bedrooms spread out over the second and third floor. Bedrooms, although not huge, are neat and simple with sparkling en suites.

It’s an ode to outdoor living: breakfast (a big buffet laden with seasonal fresh fruits and cheeses) on the shaded terrace, a long table for guests to socialise in the evenings, quiet spots for reading and snoozing. You’re taken care of by charming, knowledgeable hosts who can help with trips and places to eat.

Reviews

We enjoyed a superb stay at Torrechiara. Marco and Eugenia are excellent hosts, responsive to their guests’ needs and making the whole stay relaxed and very easy. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and very well equipped with stunning views across the nearby national park. Torrechiara is a beautiful property on a wonderful site and the environmentally sensitive nature of the project is a real strength and underpins the whole experience. Marco and Eugenias’ ongoing development plans will make it even more special and we look forward to a return trip. We highly recommend this place.

Nancy, Brighton

Young and enthusiastic hosts, Marco and Eugenia, came out of the height of the pandemic period with a clear mission: to restore a family property and convert it into a comfortable eco accommodation tied to the local community. Guests will get a real education and authentic flavour of the Alta Murgia area of northern Puglia and its spectacular scenery being right at the edge of the national park.

Location

The neighbourhood

Set in 25 acres of olive groves and vineyards. The National Park is on your doorstep: 68,000 hectares of rich biodiversity - 75 species of birds, 1,500 species of vegetation - between Bari, Andria and Altamura. The coast is 30-minutes away for gem-like towns, visit Miniera di Bauxite di Spinazzola (the Grand Canyon of Puglia), eat at Torre Sansanello (4km) or splash out at Il Turacciolo (14km).

Introducing

Marco & Eugenia

Eugenia (her parents own the land) and her partner Marco found themselves here for months on end during the Covid pandemic and decided to turn the old farmhand dwellings into an eco-friendly B&B. Guided by sustainable principles, they wanted to create a simple place to stay, immersed in nature, for guests to enjoy. They are hands on hosts and you'll meet their great white shepherd too.
