The Experience

Bask by the pool in the shade of the olive groves… pick the sweetest figs from the tree. This remote place makes you feel special the moment you arrive. Patrizia and Enzo welcome you with smiles and the garden (for this lush area) is characteristically green.

You wake to a breakfast of homemade cakes, fresh oranges and local cheeses, served on the communal terrace or in the big light living room. Your hosts have achieved a stylish restoration in sympathy with the 100-year-old trulli.

It’s easy to stay in and cook a simple supper: there’s an excellent kitchen and a barbecue. For a treat, book a meal at Cibus in Ceglie: it’s a 15-minute drive. Ostuni, queen of Puglia’s dazzling white towns, is not much further; beyond are wonderful sand beaches. Swim and sail at Rosa Marina, or find a hidden creek at Torre Guaceto, and watch the wildlife and the birds.

The neighbourhood

This green corner of Puglia is known for its ancient olive trees and fertile red earth. Your nearest town is Ceglie Messapica (7km), where restaurants and concerts abound. Ostuni (15km) is fabulous, with steep cobbled alleyways, baroque-fronted churches, and a small charming cathedral at the top. Enjoy latte and galati on the Piazza della Libertà; the main square throbs with life throughout summer.

Local points of interest from Patrizia .

  • Ulivi al sole will welcome you in the silence of the countryside. The ideal place to relax, but also the perfect starting point to discover the local hamlets or the sea. Enjoy walks or bike rides amongst the olive groves and dry stone walls.
  • Ulivi al Sole is only few km away from Ostuni, the beautiful “white city”, a must-see, the narrow paved streets, beautiful corners in blossom, the Cathedral and churches. Make sure you don’t miss a walk on the city walls, the view is spectacular.
  • Ceglie Messapica, with its narrow lime plastered walls, is a centre of excellence of the Apulian cuisine. Savour the specialties of local cuisine at the numerous restaurants and food-dedicated events.
  • Martina Franca and its beautiful historic centre is a must-see. A criss-cross of narrow streets leads to squares and beautiful unexpected corners. Visit the Palazzo Ducale, the Cathedral, the elegant Baroque buildings and beautiful churches.
  • Alberobello is the hallmark of the history of the region. It’s a village of trulli, narrow paved streets, beautiful corners and little boutiques with local products. On the way back stop in two exquisite hamlets, Cisternino and Locorotondo.
  • Enjoy: the long sandy beaches, the coves and the clear sea. The parks of Torre Guaceto. Every day a different destination for culture, food and nature lovers.

Patrizia .

Nothing is too much trouble for Patrizia and Enzo, a lovely couple from Turin. Patrizia, an interior designer by trade, speaks perfect English and French. They know the area very well, so you can make the most of their knowledge. In spite of their friendliness, your hosts are not intrusive.
