The Experience

As temperatures soar, you’re cooling off in the courtyard’s little pool, or under one of the six rain showers. A cool rustic minimalism runs through your Puglian masseria, where multiple farm families, and livestock, once lived together.

The bedrooms feed off the courtyard (some up, others down), a couple with tiny kitchens built into the rock. There’s no living room but there are two big sociable tables, one in the kitchen and the other outside close to large bright-cushioned benches and a pizza oven. If you don’t want to cook, stroll into Patù, to the owner’s simple, excellent restaurant.

The Ionian coast with crystal clear waters and long stretches of sand, is a ten-minute drive. Spend an idyllic day at Marina de San Gregio, and don’t miss Bar del Moro in one of the coves. The wine is local, the people friendly, and the fish straight from the sea.

The neighbourhood

The house is just across the fields from the sleepy village of Patù, close to the white sand beaches of the Salento; Marina de Felloniche is 7km. The peninsula is enjoying a cultural renaissance, thanks to Greek and Roman temples scattered all over, and the town of Lecce, “the Florence of the south”. Head too to the pretty town of Otranto, and Gallipoli, for big beaches and night life. Its walled Old Town, which stands on an island, is a gem.

Eleonora Cappilli

The owner owns a wonderful restaurant in Patù - the Rua de li Travaji. So it is Eleonora the friend/ caretaker who checks in the guests. She is extremely helpful, speaks excellent English and deals with any requests you may have, from doing the shopping to organising a chef.
