The Experience

Coming in through the big blue door is like walking onto a stage set: an ancient olive tree at the cobbled centre, masses of bougainvillea…and the backdrop: this beautifully restored house. Step out of the sun into the cool, shady interior of the ground floor apartments. All is stylishly rustic with colours ranging from earthy floor and Mediterranean kitchen tiles, to chunky wooden and chalk-blue beams, and bold African-inspired ochre and turquoise.

Interesting arty finds, open fireplaces, a cushioned sofa-bed, quirky pieces in niches, reclaimed timber, and compact, comfortable bed and shower rooms; their windows onto a forgotten street. Up in the first floor apartment there are light and airy views over rooftops to the hills beyond.

You cook in colourful kitchens: find wine, water, cheese, ham and fresh fruit plus all the basics for cooking – you are welcomed by a neighbour who can advise you on where to go and what to see.

Reviews

A charming characteristic and colourful place to stay for a quiet holiday in a romantic even unique setting. The ideal location enables you to visit nearby beaches and islands during the day and to chill out in the evening with a bbq in the courtyard.

Karen, Sawday's Inspector

A really charming base for a few days to tour around and enjoy wonderful places like Nora (Carthaginian/Roman ruins by the sea), the beaches of Chia and the fascinating island of Sant'Antiocho (ever heard of a Tophet?) Also a lovely beach 5 mins by car for quieter days closer to home (we went off-season). It's a truly atmospheric apartment with romantic courtyard. The interior lighting after dark is insufficient, but Antonio plans to fix that.

Location

The neighbourhood

The town is small but has plenty of cafés, 3 or 4 good restaurants and also food shops for stocking up. The Monday market is packed with Sicilian cheeses and local produce. The capital city of Cagliari is a one-hour drive - you can catch the bus there from here but it takes two hours. There you'll find all the shops you need plus theatres and culture. The closest beach is a 4-minute drive.

Local points of interest from Antonio Bortolotti

  • 4 min. by car from the nearest idyllic beach. 35 km of stunning coastline with white sands and crystal clear waters.
  • Home located in town. Free parking outside the door. Walking distance to groceries, supermarkets, minimarkets, cafés, restaurants, pizzeria, pharmacy, etc.
  • Stunning stalagmite caves 15 min. drive. Ancient Phoenician ruins and town of Nora by the sea (25 min. drive). Local festivals in May, June & August.
  • 2 Golf courses 25 and 35 min. drive. Bird watching in Chia with pink flamingoes in ponds by the beach (just 20 min. drive).
  • Day trips to nearby islands of S.Pietro and S. Antioco; Visit Cagliari, Sardinia's main gateway and biggest city, only 1 hour drive.
  • Monday market in town: stock up on local produce, Sardinian cheese, veggies, fruit and all local delicacies: see our tips on our dedicated 'press' page on our website

Introducing

Antonio Bortolotti

The owner Antonio Bortolotti does not live in Sardinia, so you are met by the very helpful Maria Elena, keyholder and neighbour who lives next door. She is very knowledgeable about the apartments and the town.
