Drive through rolling farmland, up past the almond and olive groves, until you can climb no further. This is it: stunning 360 degree views over the island and, on a clear day, Mount Etna in the distance. Silvia’s family have farmed for generations. She’s passionately organic – grows olives, almonds, wheat, vegetables – and loves to share both recipes and kitchen garden. The farmhouse is new, its apartments bright and simple, furnished in unfussy style with cream floor tiles, modern pine and colourful fabrics. Open-plan living areas include tiny kitchens for rustling up simple meals. Rooms won’t win design prizes but are spotless and airy and have superlative views. Silvia and Bruno (a doctor in nearby Caltanissetta) are open and welcoming; you’ll be won over by their warmth and her cooking. Breakfast on homemade bread, cakes and jams; dinner is a feast of Sicilian dishes. A great spot from which to explore the island – castles, temples, Palermo, Taormina – or enjoy the views from the lovely large garden, with pool, terrace and shady pavilion. Space, peace, delightful people.
