The Experience

You are perched at the summit of teetering Castiglione, with views from every angle over rooftops and vineyards all the way to snow-topped Etna. Inside is on three levels: find a luminous art-and-sculpture-filled living room with French windows, plenty of comfortable sofas, bronze lamps and Modica stone floors; a dining room with an antique table and a gorgeous collection of pea green china plates. The suite is huge and views from here are stunning, the second bedroom is nicely private on the next level up, and the Cave Room on the ground floor is carved from the sandstone rock. Bathrooms are sparkling and tiled, towels are thick and fluffy. You’re looked after by the housekeeper, Maria – she will make cakes and breads to order, and can cook you a delicious Sicilian supper too; breakfast on the terrace overlooking the volcano is special indeed. It’s tempting to stay put but there’s much to discover nearby: Castiglione has ancient Greek origins, Byzantine churches and a fortified tower; Etna can be explored on foot, horseback or jeep; local wine tasting is a must. Owner Denise lives on site in another building and can give wise counsel.

Reviews

Ann & Martin, Exeter

Our stay at La Dimora was the highlight of our visit to Sicily. Denise & Oksana made us very welcome and we felt privileged to be able to share Denise's beautiful home. Sad to leave.

Kay, Penzance

This is a really special B&B. Beautiful rooms, the most splendid breakfast and above all extremely charming housekeeper and owner. The highlight was breakfast on the terrace with views of Etna, made it very difficult to leave.

Lisa, Den Haag

This property is very special and possesses all of the wonderful features we have come to associate with Sawdays properties. The town is fascinating, lived in and very Sicilian with an interesting history, well located, friendly, hospitable, and just enough off the beaten track to avoid tourists looking for the more easily accessible selfie locations. Yet it is close enough to Isola Bella to drive for a swim and the sunset, to Etna to soak in the views and take an excellent recommended tour. Denise was a very good hostess and with her lovely assistant, Oksana, made our stay faultless. Lovely.

Hannah, London

We arrive stressed and exhausted from London and left relaxed and refreshed. We stayed in the 'standard' double room upstairs but it was deluxe in its huge bed, crisp linen, spotless ensuite and lovely views. We were welcomed with local cheese and delicious Etna prosecco on the sunny balcony looking at the amazing volcano and blue sky, the perfect start to the holiday. We enjoyed days trips up Etna which was breathtaking and to a local gorge. Wonderful.

Nicola, Bristol

This is a very special place to stay. Denise has created a beautiful and comfortable home. The position is spectacular. Nothing can beat the view from the main bedroom window overlooking Mt Etna. Denise was very welcoming, and most helpful with tips for local restaurants, and suggestions for guides for a trip up Mt Etna. The rooms were beautifully decorated, spacious and extremely comfortable, with plenty of space. There are gorgeous views from every angle of the house. Breakfast on the balcony was delicious. Denise is a wonderful host who has given much consideration to her guests' experience
