The
Experience
Views reach to Mount Etna from this graceful, grown-up, French-designed family house, half an hour from Catania airport. Once vineyards grew here; now a gated group of modern villas includes this one, its privacy maintained by a large walled garden with mature chestnut, lemon, orange, fig, palm and pine trees. You can dine on the terrace, lunch in the shade, swim in the big inviting pool. Inside: high vaulted ceilings, arched doors, dark lava pillars, muted colours and beautifully chosen antique and contemporary pieces. The split-level sitting room has a central open fireplace; the generously equipped kitchen has coloured tiles and lovely blue and white crockery. Bedrooms are light, fresh, airy and uncluttered, with snowy linen and towels; from the master bedroom you can step into the garden. Local architect and owner Paul lives nearby and arranges a welcome snack of breads, cheeses, olives etc. Talk to him about shopping, hiring more bikes, and guided activities ‘off piste’ – skiing Etna with sea views is seriously special! You’re 20 minutes from beaches, and the same from Taormina.

First found on this site. A fabulous, just as depicted home in a lovely part of Sicily. 10 people of 3 generations enjoyed 2 weeks. 5 mins to town for all supplies needed. Well equipped clean home with lovely gardens/pool/play yard for kids. Paul was available as needed. Mount Etna and wineries close by and site seeing was easy from here but glad to come home to garden and pool! Highly recommended

While booking out trip to Sicily we were looking for a quiet place to accommodate our family, away from touristic noise and expecting quite simple pleasures to be experienced through our stay, and a place close to the ski slopes. So we got very easy booking directly with owner, Paul, a nice and decent intellectual always ready to meet you with a nice smile on his face. The manager is actually a gentle erudite person, one will actually find himself immersed quickly in Paul's very pleasant chat themes from Sicily historic heritage to history, local traditions, music gourmand meals. Stunning place

A magical stay in this charming place. The house is even more impressive than it looks on photos. We are a family and the children were in heaven playing in the spacious garden with pool. The only regret you will have is not staying longer. A special thank to Paul who is a very kind and helpful owner.

Wonderful villa in beautiful surroundings. Very spaciious bedrooms and living areas with plenty of room for 10 guests. Stunning pool and gardens, can highly recommend for families or groups of friends. We had a wonderful holiday here in June and found the owner and his staff very helpful.

Villa Edera was a really great place to stay with the extended family. This was our first trip to Sicily and we came with our children and our small grandchildren and everyone had a glorious time. The house was a perfect base for expeditions and a delight to return to with its lovely garden and pleasant pool. The house itself is attractive and manageable and it was also easy to self cater as local produce was delicious! There was excellent support too from the owner. We would all recommend a stay at the villa wholeheartedly!

We can say without any doubt that this was one of the best experience we had abroad. Was our first time in Sicily and we did not really know what to expect. We stayed in this massive property just 2 of us, and we really had the time of our lives. We would definately will be coming back, in fact i would never had left. A big, big thanks to Paul (the owner), always so friendly, full of advices for day trips, activities, and general local knowledge, as where to get the freshest fish and meat in the county. THANK YOU!!!! Andrea & Sarah

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Paul Barthelemy
- Villa Edera stands on the south eastern slopes of the impressive volcano, Mount Etna, in Trecastagni, a calm little village.
- In winter, we offer back country skiing excursions on the volcano. It’s a unique experience! It’s not every day that you can ski across a volcanic landscape with views out to the sea. We also organize mountain bike trips on Etna or in the Nebrodi.
- Half an hour’s drive away is the Picciolo golf course with 18 holes at the foot of the Volcano.
- Fiumefreddo, the stunning 10 km long beach with crystalline waters, is only a 20 minutes drive from Villa Edera.
- Visit Catania with its historic baroque center and its picturesque fish market. Siracusa, Ragusa Ibla and Noto are beautiful baroque cities that are easily reachable within an hour by car.
- Visit the vineyards around Etna, Villa Edera will be happy to advise you the best
