The
Experience

Spend the day in Taormina: Sicily’s “pearl of the Ionian Sea”. Return to a Campari Spritz and a refreshing dip in the pool. More boutique hotel than B&B, this spanking new roadside villa stands in the suburbs of Savoca, and what makes it special is Christel. Belgian born and married to a Sicilian, she is a charming and multilingual hostess.

Each bedroom is impeccable and two open to the pool. Wake to breakfast tables laid with local cheeses, prosciutto, fruits and homemade jams. For lunch, there’s a lovely restaurant in little hilltop Savoca. Or join the tourists at the Bar Vitelli; ‘The Godfather’ was filmed here and it’s barely changed.

If you’re doing The Godfather tour, don’t miss Forza D’Agrò. A cliff-perched restaurant combines delicious local food with a stunning panorama, taking in Mazzaro Bay and the Straight of Messina.

Reviews

Christel is a warm and helpful host. A good solution to escape Taormina's crowds and still get hotel comforts and services in an intimate setting.

Location

The neighbourhood

There are no shops in Rina, but there is Kontiland, a small architectural theme park. It's worth walking up the hill to Savoca, 2km, for the Convento dei Cappuccini and a view of the sea. The splendid Church of Saints Peter and Paul of Agrò is 5km away, and the nearest beach is Santa Teresa di Riva, 7km, pebbly but peaceful, with a popular seafood restaurant. Taormina, famous for its beaches and its ancient theatre overlooking the sea, is a 40-minute drive.
