The Experience

In an ancient landscape of stoney outcrops and grazing cattle the valley road curves round to the plain above, high and glorious with great views. There, at the end of a narrow lane, is the house, elegant in its simplicity, whiter than white with pale turquoise shutters. A large marble-topped table is protected by a gazebo, a striped hammock is slung between the trees, sleek loungers flank a big pool, and there’s a play area shaded by olives. Inside, all sparkles, from the sitting room with books, wood-burner and white leather sofa, to the well-equipped kitchen, the simple bedrooms and the bathroom with its great big shower. Civilisation is a seven-minute drive, but there’s no other dwelling in sight; this is a place for those who love silence. If you bring children, make sure they can swim; if not, the beach is a ten-minute drive. Few tourists make it to Sicily’s southernmost tip, and out of season you’ll have the place to yourselves. Come evening, head for Ragusa, a honey-coloured Renaissance marvel – or ethereal Noto, or glorious Modica.

Reviews

We had a wonderful week at the end of October and really enjoyed the villa. We visited Noto, Marzamemi and Siracusa, all within easy reach. There is so much to see in Sicily! But we made sure we also had time to relax at the villa. We really enjoyed the quiet surroundings, the beautiful refreshing (unheated!) pools and the amazing pizza oven in the kitchen. Our children loved having their own private climbing frame / play area in the shade of the garden. Liam was very helpful and answered all our questions promptly by email. We would definitely stay again!

We spent a beautiful week in Sicily - the villa was well equipped and beautifully decorated. It was very peaceful yet near enough to explore plenty of the stunning beaches and towns in Sicily. The owner was very helpful in answering questions and providing recommendations for things to do. Lovely to have our own space and beautiful swimming pool - it was a very relaxing holiday.

A wonderful villa with great pool and nice touches like wood burning pizza open and outdoor cinema for films under the stars. The villa is in a great location between Siracuse and Noto and absolutely wonderful beaches very near - both sandy bays as well as coves for snorkelling which kept the kids very happy. Simon was a great host - highly responsive and with some great tips to make the most of the local area. Highly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The villa is lovely, the bedrooms are a good size, the kitchen is well equipped and the pool and jacuzzi are great. Having the projector screen for films was a great bonus for us and the kids also enjoyed the underwater scooters and the playground. The location for beach, towns such as Noto, Ragusa Ibla and Syracuse and spiaggi del Marchesa was great. We also enjoyed the coffee shop recommended in Cassibile.

This is a really lovely place: a good house in a great location and the pool is fab! Sitting outside with a coffee at 7am, before the crickets kicked off and before the heat really got going was very calming! And it has excellent wifi for those who need it. There is lots to do in the area (historical visits, Etna, beach, snorkelling club etc), and Cassibile, the local town, is friendly and unpretentious. Great gelataria as well! There some minor glitches with the house but nothing to get in the way of a lovely week.

I have spent 10 delicious days in this villa at the beginning of May. The house is wonderful and completely silent and the owners could not have been more kind and helpful. It is less than one hour away from Catania airport and it's a perfect place to discover the treasures in the South of Sicily. Art, history, culture, food and wine, nature: Sicily has it all!

Local points of interest from Liam O'Sullivan

  • The Villa is perfectly located for exploring the Baroque jewel UNESCO World Heritage towns of Noto Siracusa, Scicli, Modica and Ragusa. The white sandy beaches with pristine Caribbean blue water are only a 10-minute drive. Both Villa pools are open from 1/5
  • Shops, bars & restaurants are 7 minutes away. Within 20-minutes drive there are two stunning Greek theatres and one Roman amphitheatre (the Romans filled it with water for real naval battles!)
  • The Villa is situated close to the entrance to the famous Cavagrande di Cassibile Nature Reserve with its beautiful freshwater lakes. Hundreds of flamingoes stop off in transit to Africa at the nearby Vendicari Nature Reserve.
  • If cooking and wine is your thing - visit the Ortigia food market for fresh fish and locally grown vegetables - where you'll walk away with bags of amazing produce for half of nothing!
  • Want to get out on the Med - Miami Vice style? Hire a boat for a day for about £120.
  • If the kids want a water park with huge slides there's the fantastic Etnaland or the volcano itself only forty minutes away. While you're there enjoy a typical country lunch with superb award winning wine at a Mt Etna vineyard run by two Sicilian brothers.
