Villa Zagara

Selinunte, Trapani

Secluded villa with a swimming pool surrounded by citrus groves and olive trees; the temples of Selinunte and the coast are nearby

3 beds

3 bedrooms

Sleeps 6

This modern villa is set on a vast agricultural estate but is only a five-minute drive from Castelvetrano. Friendly house manager Massimo will greet you and show you around – ask about vineyard tours and where to get the best local food.

A welcome basket of typical Sicilian products includes fruit, local bread, biscuits, wine and olive oil. Cook together in the kitchen or use the barbecue and eat out on the shaded porch facing the garden and swimming pool. The nearest restaurant is a simple trattoria serving authentic food and there are plenty more options in Castelvetrano.

The main attraction here is the Greek archaeological site of Selinunte, just a ten-minute drive away, but you can also easily explore western Sicily – Agrigento, Palermo and Trapani are all within an hour’s drive. Good beaches and authentic fishing villages are a ten-minute drive away.

I personally loved the villa and its outdoor spaces, very well planned to get the best out of this incredible climate and light. The transparent walls in the showers are something I have never seen in my many trips as an inspector ! And of course i loved the strategic position to visit some of my favourite destinations in western Sicily, so rich in nature, art, history and enogastronomic wealth !

The neighbourhood

Nearby Castelvetrano is known for its Baroque and Islamic-Norman architecture and gastronomy, particularly the local specialties of black bread, olives and oil. There are plenty of cafes lining charming piazzas where you can watch people going about their daily life.

Massimo Villas Collection

The villa is one of several owned by Massimo Provenza who started his hospitality business in 2003. As well as renting out property they offer tailor-made tours to delve deeply into the region, with wine tastings, a chef and pizza from the oven if there is one. Each villa is looked after by a caretaker who will welcome you and make sure you have everything you need.
