The Experience

Giampiero and Jane converted these 16th-century barns and a watchtower into cosy apartments that can be rented as romantic boltholes for two or combined to create enough space for families or groups of friends.

Traditional features including wooden beams and terracotta tiles rub along happily with modern comforts. Sleep in serene bedrooms overlooking a tranquil garden planted with herbs and fruit trees; gaze over vineyards from your private terrace.

Follow an old farm road from the property to reach hiking trails; wander up the hill for daily Chianti tasting at the Castello di Nipozzano. Florence is only 25 minutes away by train from nearby Pontassieve.

Pandemic Paradise! Sadly, we are limited in space, so we can not really give the glowing review this beautiful spot deserves. This short review cannot fully describe our thanks for the kindness of our wonderful hosts, Jane and Giampiero! Borgo di Sopra is lovely, tastefully decorated with quality beds and linens and it is fully equipped with everything you would need. Despite the pandemic, we enjoyed watching spring bloom around the house and across the vineyards. Perfect hosts, a magical spot, beautiful memories and now friends for life. Linda and Lou

I would happily spend a few days in this uncontaminated countryside, get to chat with Jane and Giampiero, yet be very close to Florence.

Magical location with truly wonderful hosts! The site photos really do capture its beauty, in the vineyard's hills, as well as the attractiveness of the rooms. The additional bonus - which will bring us back - is the wonderful hospitality of Jane and Giampiero! From Borgo di Sopra, we were able to explore the beauty of Tuscany, take the train into Florence, walk to wine tastings, as well as to sit, relax and enjoy its peaceful grounds. We are planning our return!

Mary, St Catharines

7 adults from UK, Denmark and USA, gathered together for a truly wonderful holiday at Borgo di Sopra. We could not have wished for a more perfect venue. The accommodation (Cipresso and Antica) is out of this world in its location, beautifully restored and tastefully furnished. We had easy access to so many wonderful Tuscan places, which we enjoyed to the full, blessed by perfect weather every day. Our hosts could not have been more charming and helpful, it was like leaving family by the time we departed at the end of ten days. Heartfelt thanks to Jane and Giampiero. We all hope to return.

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Borgo di Sopra. The properties are set in an idyllic location and the owners are the most gracious people you could wish to meet. We stayed in Villa and we were extremely impressed with the standard of accommodation. We really appreciated the care taken in choosing the furnishings and art work to create a lovely interior. The property allows you to enjoy breakfast in the sun on the upper terrace and then an a tranquil evening on the lower garden terrace watching the sunset over the vineyards. Just perfect!

The neighbourhood

The cottages are set inside Frescobaldi estate in the Chianti Rufina wine region, and all the views from the houses reveal rows and rows of top-quality vines; a ten-minute walk up the hill brings you to wine tasting at the estate’s Castello di Nipozzano. The nearest shops and restaurants are in Pontassieve, a ten-minute drive away, and Siena, Arezzo, Luca, Pisa and San Gimignano are all less than two hours’ drive away.

Local points of interest from Jane Fox

  • Florence really is within easy reach. There is an excellent commuter train service to central Florence from the nearby town of Pontassieve. It delivers you to the town centre (Santa Maria Novella) in 20-25 minutes.
  • This is Chianti Rufina. Less well known than Chianti Classico, it's quite a discovery. Close to Florence, to the east of the city, it yields impressive full bodied red wines and the scenery is spectacular.
  • Castello di Nipozzano is just a short panoramic walk away. The Castle has almost 900 years of history and watches out over the countryside. A little below is the elegant Villa, where there is a winestore with daily tastings and cellar visits.

Jane Fox

Giampiero is from Sicily and Jane is from the UK. They are both enthusiastic about hosting guests and go out of their way to make sure you have a great holiday.
