Up quiet narrow roads, each hairpin turn offering better views than the last, lies the hamlet of Montefioralle. It’s here, set amongst olive groves and vineyards, that you find your farmhouse. Immensely friendly owners Elena and Roberto run their farm onsite and are eager to share their joy for the place, but always respectful of your privacy. Perfect for big groups, the house is filled with a mix of the rural and sophisticated, with stone floors, beamed ceilings and interesting antiques. The big kitchen, with its stone fireplace and mod cons tucked away in sleek cabinets, is a place for feast-making and off the split-level, light-filled communal area are the inviting bedrooms – two up and four down. One has a quirky canopied bed, the master has glorious countryside views and all the bathrooms are cleverly designed and tucked into unusual spaces. Set off on foot along dirt tracks and discover local villages, food, festivals and art, or head further afield to Florence or Siena for a day trip. Return to dinner on the terrace or a dip in the infinity pool, the air filled with the scent of herbs and flowers.
