Le Stanze Del Casale was a special experience for us, we didn't want to leave! There's a warm and dreamy atmosphere that is very unique. The bedrooms are just beautiful, quiet and romantic, the house and the garden hold many pleasant surprises and the location is super convenient, close to Portoferraio yet hidden in a quiet and green spot. We would go back immediately!

The neighbourhood

Elba is the third largest island in Italy, after Sicily and Sardinia, ten kilometres from Piombino on the Tuscan coast. Ferries are plentiful from the mainland into Portoferraio, the island’s largest town, which has forts to visit and two houses lived in by Napoleon during his exile. It’s easy to rent scooters from here to zip around the rest of the island. The house is a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk from the port. There are gentle walks straight from the house to coast and restaurants.

Local points of interest from Florence Daubas

  • The island of Elba Elba lies in the Tyrrhenian Sea at about 45min from the Tuscan coast by ferry. A 100m rural road connects the villa to the main road, which leads to Porto Azzurro (12km), Capoliveri (14km), Marina di Campo (14km), Marciana Marina (16km).
  • Rental boat and inflatable motorboats company, an active diving centre, a sailing school, a stadium with running tracks, three tennis courts, a fitness trail within San Giovanni’s thermal area, and the Elba nine-hole golf club nearby.
  • The house is walking distance from two traditional “trattorie” (Italian-style small restaurants) located in San Giovanni. In one of these it is possible to order freshly prepared meals.Grocery&co: Elba’s supermarkets are open seven days a week.
  • The turquoise sea washes its numerous beaches, cliffs and coves. Elba boasts a wide variety of beaches, ranging from the classic sandy beaches, to gravel, pebble, and rock beaches. Its inland offers equally beautiful views.
  • North you can reach the stunning white-sand beaches of Sansone and Capobianco, and going south there are the beautiful beaches of Barabarca and Zuccale. A little further south past Barabarca, you can reach the magical and peaceful beach of Punta Calamita
  • Elba's most relevant historical figure has been Napoleon Bonaparte, who exiled here in May 1814 after abdicating the French throne and governed the island for little less than a year, leaving a much longer and deeply rooted on its future identity.

Florence Daubas

Three friends – Florence, who has lived in France, Italy and Thailand; Linda, a lawyer, and Antonello, an architect - combined their love of art, travel and interior design to restore and decorate their home. They’ve filled the house with bold, original pieces of art, books and beautiful things. They ran it as a B&B for a few years and now offer the house on a self-catering basis; they live in part of the house and are on hand if you need them.
