The Experience

The entrance, across rough-mown grass, softens you for the impact of the sun-dappled courtyard. Once arrived, you know this is the very essence of special. Ilaria, whose commitment to doing things sensitively is catching, laid the paving stones herself. Inside there are engaging and surprising touches of authenticity and art everywhere.

Rooms are simple, pretty, delightful – all with the hand of Ilaria whose personality is also stamped firmly on the verdant garden. The village is half-ruined, an engaging group of old buildings at the top of a rough road high in these beautiful hills, chestnut forests all around. Roll up your sleeves for cooking courses, set off on gorgeous walks.

Or simply loll on the deck by the cooling pool, admiring views of the Apuan Alps.

Reviews

A truly relaxing holiday in a breathtaking location. From the moment we arrived, greeted by Ilaria with a basket of freshly-picked raspberries, we felt the stresses of our hectic lives lift. Spectacular views from our bedroom window, beautiful and carefully restored ancient stone buildings, the freshest, cleanest air, and the slower pace of life in this remote area are a tonic for the soul. The food is delicious and dining in the courtyard decorated with fresh flowers, herbs and candlelight, is special indeed. Ilaria and all of the staff are welcoming and helpful. We definitely hope to return

Heavenly! We lay in our beautifully comfortablle bed with swallows flying in and out of the window, mountains in the distance and perfect peace. So much to see nearby but come here for a while and stay put. Supper in the candlelit courtyard is lovely and Ilaria is wonderful. We have been twice and are dreaming of next time 😍

La Luna is a magical place and Ilaria a warm and generous host. Arriving was memorable: meeting the cows on the spectacular drive up, the woodstove lit especially to welcome us, a beautiful room with wild flower petals strewn on the bedspread. Learning the provenance of every dish at dinner and breakfast was very special and each one was delicious. The views are unforgettable. We loved everything about our stay here and look forward to a return visit.

What you say is spot on. Ilaria is warm, helpful and incredibly generous and hospitable. If you like well cared for, old stone buildings you will love La Luna. The restoration has been beautifully done with many interesting features. The dining room floor is remarkable - study it! Ilaria's cooking is heaven and our bedroom was very comfortable with excellent large bed and good linen. Views of the mountains from the bed, heaven. Ilaria explains all that you eat and to help you find producers of all sorts. Nothing at La Luna happens by accident, there is great attention to detail.

Ilaria and Stefano were perfect hosts, making us feel very welcome and looking after us with a mix of generous attention and respect. My friend and I had the place to ourselves for the first two days and felt in heaven: beautifully decorated rooms, simple but elegant, with excellent en suite. As food lovers, especially Italian, we found every meal - from breakfast to dinner, pure heaven: all the produce either home-grown or carefully sourced locally, served with the elegant simplicity which came naturally. We were welcome in the kitchen, though not to learn Ilaria' granny's recipes of course!

I wanted to tell you that Ilaria Baccherini's wonderful place in Quarrazana is everything you said it would be. She has a unique gift for hospitality and her house and her cooking brings out the best in her visitors. Many thanks for the recommendation- I'll be going there again.

We spent 3 wonderful days sampling Ilaria's home cooking and exploring this undiscovered part of Tuscany. Even when it rained buckets, nothing could dampen the children's enthusiasm for this unusual and quirkily restored oasis and months later they still talk about the food.

Sophie

what a beautiful and rustic idyll, charming and comfortable. Ilaria was full of helpful information and obviously loved the region. We loved getting back to the framhouse afyer a busy day and chilling out with delicious food and wine - and a donkey who ate our crisps!!

Barbara

La Luna di Quarazzana is a dream: a beautifully restored farmhouse, high in the mountains, owned and managed by delightful Ilaria. She is a wonderful host and a fabulous cook (we enjoyed two al fresco dinners there). Breakfasts are superb: homemade bread, jams, cakes, plus cheese, meats, yogurt, juice, and coffee. We stayed in “Il Volta,” the largest room, very comfortable, simply but charmingly decorated, which has a sofa, a fridge, and a large window looking out on the Apuan Alps. In the afternoons, we loved to sit in the courtyard with our books and glasses of wine.

La Luna di Quarazzana is an enchanting B&B situated high in the hills of northern Tuscany. Entering the village is like stepping back to a bygone age with animals more likely to pass you in the street than other humans!! Ilaria is a wonderful and generous host who has done an amazing job with the renovations that have taken place. Our family enjoyed an exceptional communal meal consisting of local specialities. We look forward to returning for a longer stay when the new cucina is up and running

My husband and I spent a weeekend at La Luna di Quarazzana and it was unforgettable. The place is amazing: the whole village was renewed and it shows great attention to details in bringing back to life the ancient vibe of the area. The hosts can really make you feel at home: the are caring and you can see they actually love what they do with special attention to the quality of food, completely homemade by Ilaria. I really reccommend this bnb if you're looking for a relaxing and romantic getaway!

Letizia

I stayed at La Luna di Quarazzana during a walking holiday with friends and family. I was welcomed by the charming owner Ilaria who explained the history of this incredible building that manages to retain all the character of the past but has all the comforts required for a perfect stay. Breakfast was an amazing selection of breads and cakes served with jams and cheeses, all handmade by Ilaria: giving an ideal start to my day. At the end of my walk I would relax in the peaceful and tranquil gardens of Quarazzana and realize that this really is a special place

Location

The neighbourhood

It's a delightful, unfussy place to stay with Ciuffo the donkey wandering freely around the hamlet and thick woodlands to explore. Walkers will be off all day admiring the views, wandering footpaths, being at one with nature. The nearest town is Posara, 8km, for shops and restaurants and also The Watermill – eat in a sunny courtyard with an adjoining vine veranda and walled garden.

Local points of interest from Ilaria Bacherini

  • Hands on cooking classes with traditional Italian recipes that I learned from my 96 year old grandma! Dinner is made using our own organic produce - we decide on the menu each day depending on what we gather from the garden to the table!
  • We organize wine and food tasting visits on local farms, such as an old grain mill, a cheese factory, winery and so on...just ask us! We also organize yoga lessons on demand.
  • The view is amazing on the Apuane Alps, and there are fantastic hikes up the mountain or to a scenic natural waterfall.
  • Surrounded by nature. Make a walk to natural waterfall or a hike to torre del nocciolo.
  • We are 8km from Fivizzano, an ancient village with a lovely square, fountain and the best bakery ever ! Visit to Fivizzano and Verrucola Castle. A beautiful Renaissance village made by Medici family.
  • We are 45 minutes from Porto Venere and Cinque Terre - we can organize trips to discover the 'hidden' Cinque Terre so you can avoid the crowds as much as possible. We are also 1hr 20 from Lucca and Pisa, 2 hours from Florence.

Introducing

Ilaria Bacherini

Ilaria bought the house some years ago with the firm intention of maintaining its originality and intrinsic simplicity. The dream of opening up a "slow-living" place for international guests came true and now she gives free rein to her talents – amazing cooking and looking after guests. You'll be delighted with the authentic, locally sourced food, cooked to her grandmother's recipes.
