The
Experience

Wind up the steep single-track road through olive groves to Olga’s family home. There are huge valley views in every direction and a big welcome from the owners as well as two sleepy dogs.

Breakfast on homemade cakes, biscotti, local cheeses and salami on the veranda or at a big kitchen table. Olga will happily advise on restaurants and excursions, or you can book dinner on request.

Lazy afternoons can be spent by the beautiful pool, or test the healing waters at the nearby Grotta Giusti Spa. There’s excellent hiking straight from the door, a nature reserve for spotting wetland birds and medieval villages galore a short drive.

Location

The neighbourhood

The property is an eight-minute drive from Monsummano Terme, a spa town known for its natural thermal waters - Grotta Giusti Spa is just a couple of minutes’ drive from the house, where you can benefit from the healing waters. The nearby Padule di Fucecchio nature reserve/wetlands is a popular spot for birdwatchers and there’s great walking country all around. Medieval Montevettolini is a ten-minute drive and Lucca is only half an hour away.

Local points of interest from Olga De Caro

  • The location is a great base to take day trips to LUCCA (34 km) - PISA (55 km)- FLORENCE ( 50 km)- SAN GIMIGNANO ( 60 KM) CINQUE TERRE..but also some some off-the-beaten-track places to get a different take on the region.
  • VINCI (20 km far) birthplace of the Renaissance genius Leonardo, is an enchanting medieval village – worth a visit alone. You can combine a visit of the unique Museum with Leonardo's incredible machines and inventions with a good CHIANTI WINE TASTING!
  • MONTECATINI (only 10 minutes) one of the most elegant “spa town”, with its historical thermal baths, magnificent parks, fashion boulevard. I suggest to visit TERME TETTUCCIO Often in in the afternoon and in the evening there are classical music concerts.
  • Nearby are many gorgeous medieval hamlets surrounded by olive groves: Montevettolini Buggiano Castello, Uzzano and MONTECATINI ALTO where you can enjoy a stroll on cobbled lanes and meanwhile discover the many traditional restaurants offering local dishes
  • Explore "off the beaten track" PISTOIA, Italian Capital for Culture for 2017.“ Wander the historic streets, explore the bustling daily market and delicatessen shops Then don't miss a late-afternoon aperitif and 'movida' in the charming SALA SQUARE
  • PINOCCHIO'S PARK in Collodi: a fairy-tale excursion at just 20 minutes where you can visit the very original Pinocchio Park dedicated to the famous long-nosed marionette. If you have time visit THE GARZONI GARDEN and the BUTTERFLY HOUSE
