Cortile del Pozzo

Buonconvento, Siena

A lofty two-storey family apartment in a house on a former Tuscan estate sharing tennis court, pool, and some of the finest views in Italy

6 beds

4 bedrooms

Sleeps 8

Bask by the pool as you gaze on a 15th-century landscape: tall cypresses, soft hills, and medieval Montalcino in the distance. Here, just minutes from hilltop Buonconvento, is a historic farm complex housing five holiday homes, the largest of which is the granary.

Off a vast gravel courtyard you find a pleasing restoration: a farmhouse kitchen, a big beamed living room, one bedroom down and the rest up, and a loggia for lunches in the shade. Decorated with nothing too precious to worry about, it is charming, authentic, and perfect for families.

Stock up at Buonconvento’s weekly market and immerse yourself in real Italy. Return to the private garden: the apartments’ outside spaces are separated by high hedges. You’ll probably spend hours roaming outside; the setting could not be lovelier.

Just had two weeks at this amazing place . It accommodated all 6 of us quite comfortably . With lots of room . We really enjoyed sitting outside in the evenings , listen to the birds and watching for deer . So beautiful and quite , yet not to far from amenities . Very convenient for Siena and Florence and many more lovely hill top villages . Lots of good restaurants and places to eat too . So a very big thank you to our amazing friends Barrie and Julie for letting us stay here .Ps Barrie and Julie also have an excellent knowledge of anything you want to know . All you have to do is ask

We stayed here recently for a Valentine Day treat for my wife. The villa is beautiful. Even in late February we will able to sit in the courtyard and enjoy lunch with the amazing view of the rolling hills and in the afternoon in the garden under the pergola. The villa is well appointed with an excellent kitchen and pantry and the owner had left us a lovely bottle of Tuscan wine from Montalcino to enjoy on arrival. The estate is so quiet and tranquil, we hope to return in the summer to take advantage of the pool! A special mention of Barrie and Julie who could not be more accommodating.

A lovely, easy-going place to stay with its big lofty rooms, especially the living area, and a large, well-equipped kitchen. Also makes a great base for exploring this stunning region

The neighbourhood

South of Siena is the Val d’Orcia, a spectacularly beautiful area of Italy. Ask the owners to rent you mountain bikes: the biking and hiking are superb. You can walk (1.4km) to the immaculate Villa Casali di Bibbiano winery – try the wines, book a meal, relish the views. Should you prefer craft beers, burgers and pizza, the TNT pub is right by Buonconvento. This delightful old walled town comes to life throughout the year, especially at Carnival in February, the Eroica cycle race in April and the Mille Miglia classic car tour which passes through the village in May. The Sagra street food and wine carnival takes place in late September.

Local points of interest from Barrie Webb

  • Buonconvento with it's lovely village centre, awarded the status of one of Italy's finest villages is just a 6 minute drive from the home. Great local atmosphere, restaurants, bars, shops, fruit and veg, deli's, supermaket, butchers and weekly market.
  • Our guests love dining in the private garden with its ample space, alfresco dining in the courtyard with that wonderful countryside view or cooling off at the pool. The more adventurous can work up an appetite with a game of tennis here at the residence!
  • Casili restaurant, hotel and winery is just a 10 minute walk from the home.
  • The Eroica cycle race takes places every spring time through the village. Miglia mille classic car race takes place in May, not to be missed!
  • The 5 star deluxe hotel Castiglion del Bosco, is only 10 minutes from the house, where guests can enjoy a lunch or dinner and even a round of golf.
  • Montalcino with it's famous Brunello is just a short drive from the home, we will be delighted to arrange a visit to wineries. Pienza for Pecorino and Bagno Vignoni spa are two of many other pretty villages we will be happy to recommend well worth a visit.

Drawn to the beauty of Tuscany and the authenticity of nearby Buonconvento, Barrie and Julie bought the apartment in early 2019. They moved to Italy several years ago, when they started a holiday rental business. Guests will be welcomed by someone local.
