The Experience

Set off by car, bike or Vespa (Mario has thought of everything) to discover Montepulciano, a hilltop gem. Or follow the ‘Strada del Vino Nobile’ and be back in time for tea – or, more likely, a chilled glass of Rosato by the pool.

Terra Antica produces fine organic wines and great olive oil. Book into one of sommelier Sofia’s cellar tasting tours, enhanced by fabulous platters of local meats and cheeses. They do breakfasts too – vegan, Tuscan, or continental – and pizza and/or barbecue evenings on request, a chance to have fun with your hosts.

There are just four suites and three villas here: spacious, spotless and close to the pool. Each apartment comes with an outdoor space – two in the new-built Lodge (one up, one down), and three in the restored 1920s cottages. Peace and privacy reign, but best of all are the views.

The neighbourhood

This corner of Tuscany is well placed for discovery of the area, including many artisinal producers. Medieval Montepulciano is 7km, with a nice supermarket, cafés and trattorie...head for 'C'era Una Volta' for the best gnocchi, pici and pizza. Back home, in among the olive groves, you have yoga, volleyball, a playground and a trampoline - and a walking trail, an infinity pool, a jacuzzi and gym.

Local points of interest from Mario Morello

  • Terra Antica produces excellent natural wines. We advise you to taste them all with Sofia, ask her to include the Rosso Privata Riserva: it is a very special wine!
  • For the little ones, we recommend visiting the farms around Terra Antica. They are very neat and full of beautiful specimens of animals.
  • On Saturday Montepulciano comes alive with a local market where you can buy fresh vegetables, cheeses and fish from the Tuscan sea.
  • Making Mozzarella is a truly unique experience. A few kilometers from Terra Antica, an artisan dairy will reveal all the secrets of the most famous Italian cheese in the world.
  • Sunrise at Terra Antica is a magical moment. You can fully enjoy it by bike or on foot.
  • August 10 is a special date for Terra Antica. From here you will have a prime location to see shooting stars.
