The Experience

A winding road leads up into the hills and the rewards on arrival are great. Tucked out of sight from the village street, beneath a medieval castle, this beautifully restored barn appears to hang on to the side of the hill – and the views, from pool and terrace over the Spoleto valley, are stupendous. A night swim almost leaves you feeling suspended in space! As for the recently refurbished, split-level interiors, they combine traditional, solid, cave-like Umbrian architecture with funky modern touches. Slabs of wood from the wall make a glass-bannistered staircase, there are cream marble floors, a glass-topped dining table, a groovy, steep-stepped mezzanine area where children can sleep, state of the art showers; the contrasts and colours are gorgeous. Ethnic spreads, an oriental rug and a corner fireplace add warmth to the sitting room on cool evenings in, while the fully kitted kitchen leads onto a barbecue terrace for lazy lunches under the olives trees. Herbs scent the air. The hills are laced with walking and riding paths, the area is rich with history, Assisi is a short drive.

This property is a gem, secluded, stunning views, and yet close to all sorts of wonderful atttractions in Umbria. The house has every comfort you can want for, and the pool is wonderful. For those who like a bit of exercise, walking or cyling up the hill will suit you down to the ground. There is a local butcher and fresh pasta shop in the nearby village and several restaurants nearby. It is a wonderful place to rest, relax and recharge. Sitting outside in the early evening watching swallows fly by drinking from the pool is an absolute pleasure.

This is the most wonderful place to stay. Not only has the friendly owner spent much time and energy creating a beautiful home with fabulous kitchen and pool but with a rental car it is so easy to see and enjoy all the delights Umbria has to offer. From hill-top towns to the Piano Grande - the region has it all. And we hardly saw any other tourists. Even Assisi wasn't crowded. Surrounded by olive trees, the views of the vale of Spoleto from the villa's many garden terraces are truly amazing. This is truly a gem of a place to spend a relaxing holiday.

We stayed with my elderly but active parents and our week in Umbria was made perfect by this beautiful and ideal house. The house is furnished to a high standard and the bathrooms are luxurious. We were also very pleased that the kitchen was so well equipped with everything you would need for making any meal - we welcomed the added touches of picnic bag, cold blocks etc. The outside terraces are great: there must be one to catch the perfect moment of every time of day and they are surrounded by lovely herbs and scented flowers. The swimming pool is a good size and very clean. Faultless!

We stayed for a week with our 2 children and my parents. We found a home from home in a wonderful setting with a lovely pool. Our little one said that she was going to miss our "old" house! The kitchen is well-appointed and there is a great pasta shop in the village if you want to spend more time enjoying the view. There are plenty of family-friendly restaurants and culture within driving distance. We enjoyed winding down for a week in a tranquil location, listening to the birdsong (including a cuckoo), sampling local food and visiting Spoleto and Assisi. A return visit has been booked.

We stayed at Casa del Cinguettio with our 10 month old daughter in June and had the most wonderful time. The house is beautifully appointed, better than the photos suggest - a wonderful, vast kitchen, spacious bedrooms with wonderful linens and the pool is heavenly. Outside there are wonderful places to relax and plenty of spaces to spread out to if you were in a larger group. The area is fascinating and beautiful (if you can tear yourself away from the pool) and it feels like a home away from home. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend!
