The Experience

The villa sits on the side of a steep terraced slope facing the most dreamy views of the Niccone valley and the lovely hilltop village of Preggio. There are plenty of places to hide with three floors of roomy house, shady and sunny terraces, a drought-resistant garden with a big pool, hazelnut and cherry orchards, acres of forest. Two living rooms – one up, one down – are large and comfortable with books, big sofas and DVDs. The kitchen will suit even the fussiest of cooks and is brimming with equipment including a huge American style fridge, double sinks, handsome wooden bowls – all you need to rustle up meals to be enjoyed round the long convivial table in the dining room, or on one of the terraces. Throughout the house there’s a wonderful feeling of space and light, prevailing colours are cream, biscuit and pale green. Bedrooms are on all three floors: all deeply comfortable with their own smart bathrooms, and the master bedroom resplendent on the very top floor. You’re close to some super little towns for exploring and the countryside is lush.

The Casella in Preggio is an amazing place to stay. The view is absolutely amazing, the peace and the confort of the house is absolutely what we was looking for and what you can find in this beautiful house. I went there with other 7 friends for the end of the year, and was absolutely stunning . The house is fantastic, the kitchen comfortable full accessories, the dinner table fantastic, the bedrooms all with the bathrooms are absolutely comfortable and beautiful. For sure we will back very soon. Thank you K. for this amazing place. Sandro

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Katie White

  • La Casella has a spectacular view over five ranges of hills and three castles including the spectacular Castello di Reschio estate. Sit on the vine covered terrace with a drink to enjoy the astonishing sunsets, or watch eagles circle in the valley.
  • Rural and green, it is an ideal base for lovely rambles or strenuous walking, or for hiring bikes and exploring the fantastic countryside. You can find wild hills or simply walk from one hilltop village and a cappuccino or glass of wine to another.
  • At nearby Lake Trasimeno you can take a ferry to one of the picturesque islands to swim, walk and have lunch, or you can sail or go wake boarding or canoeing.
  • Explore the wonderful local markets and festivals showcasing the best local produce and traditions. Tagliatelle, the new oil, chestnuts, onions, lake fish, snails - all have their own celebrations. Eat and drink under the stars with the locals.
  • You're close to some of the world's most magnificent art and architecture. Explore ancient churches, renaissance palaces and innumerable frescoes, in little villages or in the nearby towns of Cortona, Perugia and Assisi.
  • Enjoy hundreds of cherry trees in blossom around the house in the spring, the scented garden in the summer and the smell of woodsmoke as the days turn colder. The air is always sparklingly clean and the stars at night a revelation.
