The Experience
Eat, sleep and dream in the little old watermill in the Umbrian hills – an enchanting bolthole for two. Though you can reach Perugia in under an hour it is fairly secluded; but the hiking and riding are easy. Potted lavender, herbs and tidy vines are plentiful, and apple trees and a few olives up by the cool circular pool (all yours)… the ‘shabby chic’ of the interior repeats itself outside so you barely notice where the gardens end and nature begins. Loveliest of all is the dappled veranda complete with daybed for outdoor R&R. Back inside, ceilings are low, floors are old wood or terracotta, beams are rustic, pale blue paintwork is deliberately worn, and the kitchen, with its antique marble-topped table and old-fashioned pellet stove in one corner, will surprise and delight. (It also has loads of workspace and a modern oven.) At the top is the snug bedroom with romantic wooden bed and sweet white linen, below is a sitting room with deep sofa and open fire, with views opening up to the weeping willow and fig trees. Honeymoon heaven.

La Molinella is charming. It was ideal with its secluded location, yet close proximity to the beautiful Umbrian and Tuscan towns and attractions. This quaint property provided the perfect escapism and tranquility. It was easy to really appreciate the simple pleasures in life while living in such a rustic and cosy abode; preparing coffee in the morning and reading a book on the day bed under the vines of the veranda, swimming in the pool as the sun went down, and eating pasta alfresco by candlelight. The perfect antidote to the bustle of daily life. A delightful romantic getaway.

La Molinella really is the perfect Italian hideaway - it restores the soul. Everything has been thought through so well; from the glorious day bed on the terrace for shady snoozing after a long lunch to the super kitchen which has clearly been stocked by a cook. La Molinella really has got everything you want while still retaining a simple Italian charm. The bed is comfy, the pool is delightful and the grounds are glorious - we could smell the scent of the peonies as we sat on the upstairs terrace. Top marks! Thank you Annie, we hope to be back.

A beautiful place in the heart of the Umbrian countryside and we spent many idyllic hours lazing around the pool. Perfect for those wishing to get away from it all, but be warned it is off the beaten track. The nearest village is about 5 kms away, and it is difficult to get a mobile signal. The access road could also be problematic if you have a particularly low car. We spent a lovely week here far from the madding crowd. Although it is fairly isolated, it is nonetheless fairly conveniently placed for visiting Le Marche, Tuscany and Umbria.

My Husband and I visited la Molinella for a week back in May 2006. We wanted somewhere rustic, full of charm and isolated for our Honeymoon. We got exactly what we wanted. What a delightful place. We ate in every other night and dined on the terrace every morning. Perfect! I remember that the fireplace was much appreciated as the temperature was unseasonably cool for the time of year. The nearest village is a nice walk away and it has a little alimentary where you can get your basics - wine, cheese and ham for us ;-). We would love to come back but now we are 3!!

Location
A delightful and charming small villa, beautifully situated among woods and hills. Perfectly placed for trips to a range of lovely Umbrian and Tuscan towns, but also for walks in unspoiled country. Staying in was good too. A nice pool and a large and very comfortable bed!
