The Apartment Montone

A classy little apartment just off the main square of one of Italy’s finest medieval hill-top towns. From the narrow pedestrian street (parking a five-minute walk) stairs lead to the top of the old pale stone and brick building where this ingeniously designed living space looks out over roofscapes, rolling hills and mountains. All is sleek, chic, modern and inviting. Whitewashed beams and pale-tiled floors give an airy feel; the open-plan living room has a wood-burning stove. The apartment can sleep four: the living space (with sofabed) can be separated from the master bedroom by a frosted glass sliding wall. The well-equipped kitchen area has marble worktops and seating for four. The bedrooms are calmly attractive; the bathrooms have marble-lined walls, huge shower heads and fluffy towels –  the ensuite has an elegant free-standing bath. There’s a balcony for two to sit with a cappuccino in the morning sun. You’re a meander from good restaurants and can be in Perugia, Assisi or Cortona within an hour. Book early for the Terry Gilliam-inspired July Film Festival when a giant screen is set up in the piazza.
