The Experience

A small slice of heaven for outdoorsy types: you stay on the Castello di Antognolla estate with its medieval castle, 600-hectare nature reserve, 18-hole golf course and hiking/biking trails. The architect, who owns the adjoining house (you share the pool), has carefully revived this solid 1600s farmhouse and cottage. Inside is deliciously peaceful with rich fabrics, rustic brick floors and beamed ceilings. Bedrooms are beautifully furnished with good art and windows framed in antique lace have colourful potted geraniums on the sills. Bathrooms are prettily tiled and gleaming. The open-plan kitchen/diner/living room is a lovely space to hang out with a corner fireplace, tapestry wall hanging, books, games and iPod dock. Lavender, rosemary and roses run riot in the garden, you can whip up meals and eat under the vine-covered pergolas or the very good restaurant on the estate will deliver if you fancy a night off. Paul, who lives nearby, meets you and can arrange activities or just lets you get on with lounging around the infinity pool and soaking up the valley views. Lush.

Perfect place to relax. We arrived with great plans for sightseeing, but the house and pool were so lovely that we spent most of our time there. The views and grounds are spectacular.

This villa was superb. In fact the pictures do not do it justice. The setting is beautiful and peaceful. The pool is excellent. We went with our sons and their partners. They stayed in the villa and us in the cottage. Both were well equipped and comfortable. Christine was most helpful as was her husband when we could not find the cutlery! There are plenty of pretty little villages to visit and I would recommend the wine tour mentioned in the information folder because it was very interesting and good value. A word of warning the road to the villa is steep in parts but ok once you get us

Apologies for leaving our comments so late. We spent a wonderful 3 months at Piantoni. We used both properties and the beautiful garden and pool extensively. Friends and family from the UK and local friends came to stay and play, each one agreeing with our thoughts of how homely and comfortable Piantoni is. Nothing like a holiday rental more of a home. Thank you

We are physically back from Italy but mentally still happily languishing at Villa Piantoni. What a lovely stay we had - you have created a beautiful home, perfectly appointed with everything one could want or need at hand. David greeted us at the gate and ushered us up the mountain - he gave us a charming and informative orientation. We never saw Chrissie but spoke with her a few times. It was good to know that she was a call away, but we never needed a thing - you have thought of everything - Chrissie's manual is and was well-used - very helpful. The weather was perfect - we journeyed ou

Thank you for the opportunity to spend an incredible 10 days at Villa Piantoni. From the ride to the Villa overlooking the Castle and Golf course, to the scent of the lavender and rosemary bushes upon our arrival we knew we had found a truly special place. The house itself was charming, and we enjoyed breakfast al fresco daily under the lovely portico overlooking the spectacular infinity pool and mountains. You're recommendations for restaurants and towns was much appreciated. The village of Montone was among our favorites as was the ferry ride on the vast Lake Trassimeno.
