The Experience

This holiday house has been in Petra’s family for decades, and bits and pieces they’ve gathered over the years have been left for you to enjoy – board games, a kids’ dressing up box, a guitar, records and a turntable, as well as artwork collected during stints living abroad.

There’s plenty of room for different generations to spread out, with an open-plan kitchen, living area and library on the first floor and a smaller kitchen and living area with a billiards table downstairs that spills onto the terrace and the garden. Read a book in one of the hammocks strung up between the trees and gaze out the lovely lake, or go for rambles around the property and in the surrounding countryside.

The nearest shops and restaurants are in nearby Passignano sul Trasimeno, an 8-minute drive away, where you can also hire bicycles and take a ferry across the lake to the medieval Isola Maggiore. The charming hilltop villages of Castiglione del Lago and Cortona in Tuscany are both half an hour away, Perugia and the famed wine town of Montepulciano are less than an hour away.

Staying here is like being handed the keys to Petra's family home and a chance to see local life through their eyes with personal effects they have collected over the years entrusted to visitors. This is a chance for a real holiday without the urge to go somewhere every day. Swing in a hammock in the olive grow with views of the lake or venture out by bike, foot or car to local events and towns.

The neighbourhood

Drive down a dramatic avenue of cypress trees and up a rough hill to the house, which is located on the side of a hill overlooking the lake and surrounded by five hectares of bush interspersed with pomegranate and mulberry trees. The family’s olive grove, from which they make olive oil every year, is a short walk away. There's a train station in Passignano sul Trasimeno.

Petra Mezzetti

Petra and her family live in Milan. Her parents bought the property about 30 years ago as her father is originally from Passignano sul Trasimeno, but his work for an international company took them abroad to places like France and Serbia until they settled back in Milan, so it has only ever been used as a holiday house. A local woman who speaks English, French and Italian will be your main point of contact.
