Hotel Villa Alberti

Pluck fruit from the orchard, wash it in the fountain, pick a quiet spot in the walled garden. This 17th-century villa, once the summer residence of Venetian nobility, has been restored by the delightful Malerbas to combine grand features with a warm and unstuffy mood. Beautiful shutters and floors, Murano lights and chandeliers, decorative ironwork lamps and balconies… all has been reclaimed and revived. And it is no wonder Gianni is proud of his garden, its box-lined paths, statues and century-old trees, its exceptional roses, its carpets of wild flowers; it develops as it matures. The reception hall – a sweep of dark polished wood, rich rugs and deep sofas – leads to three floors of bedrooms furnished in a simple but refined style: wooden or stone floors, silky bedspreads, a few antiques; ask for one overlooking the garden rather than the road. The rooms in the barchessa are more rustic and somewhat blander. Feast on delicious risottos on the terrace in the summer; you could get used to the aristocratic life! A direct bus runs quickly to Venice from Dolo, or you can go by boat; here you are peacefully out of town.

The location of this hotel, 20mins drive to the ferry into Venice, was fantastic, and the room was spacious? The staff were very friendly and welcoming and gave us lots of tips for going into Venice etc. We were there at a quite time so probably didn't see it at its best, lively etc, but you can imagine what a great House it would have been back in the day. The small town nearby, Dolo, was great for stroll and cafes and restaurants.

e love Venice and therefor it was very interesting to sleep in an old venetian country side home. The garden is really beautiful and the owner family is very helpful. They found for us a very good place were we can eat fish dishes.
