Raimonda and Alberto will soon have you chatting over a welcome drink; he speaks a clutch of languages, she’s bubbly, both are committed to the green way of life. Each B&B room is named after a fruit and smartly decorated: find cream walls, exposed brick, crisp linen, fluffy towels, and antique furniture to add a homely touch. Two of the apartments are in a separate building once used for drying tobacco; they have immensely high beams and are decorated in a similar style. You get a table, chairs and sofabed in the large central living area, and a neat corner kitchen; cheerful bedrooms have flower prints and checked bedspreads; two further apartments have oak floors and country antiques. Breakfast is a spread of home produce: kiwi jam, eggs, fruit, bread, yogurt. The farm is surrounded by fertile fields, trees and vines meandering across the plains, with the beautiful towns of Rovigo and Chioggia close by. Return to a peaceful patio-garden, a dip in the pool, and skittles and boules beside the huge magnolia. A happy place.
