The Experience

This quinta is in the Sintra Natural Park, with views to die for and only birdsong to break the silence. Bedrooms are large, peaceful, cleverly designed. Spread over the ground and first floors and the garden, they come with fabulous extras: terraces, verandas, sunsets and in Lavender, even distant ocean views. Inside find fresh-cut flowers, locally grown fruits, organic snacks, pool towels, a bottle of wine and teas.

Breakfast – generous and locally sourced – is a moreish and generous affair, with gluten-free and vegan options available too. Feast on yogurts, cheeses, hummus, fruits, salads, cereals, fresh breads and eggs, all washed down with fresh juice, tea, smoothies and hot coffee.

Fill your days with walks to Almoçageme, hikes or cycle rides to breathtaking cliffs; bask by the pool, quench your thirst from the honesty bar. There’s a fully equipped kitchen if you fancy cooking, but restaurants are a short stroll away too.

Reviews

I love this place. It's in a great location and is very peaceful. The gardens are lush and the sound of the birds makes you feel like you are really away from everything, but have everything at hand. The owners seem to be enthusiastic, very eager to make you feel at home and help in any way they can. The rooms are spacious and fresh-looking and each has their own outside sitting area.

Portugal is a wonderful country and Quinta Colina Flora is indeed a little gem amidst the overwhelming Sintra sourroundings. Wonderful rooms, gardens, breakfast and above all the dedication of Aasta and James, made our stay in May 2019 unforgettable.

Location

The neighbourhood

You’re surrounded by nature here, with green hills to one side and the ocean in the distance. Down the road is Flora Cabo, a vegan café with a gallery and shop – ask about their exhibitions, yoga and cooking classes. Find restaurants in Penedo, Casas Novas and Almoçagene (1-2km); 500m away is a bus stop which runs between Sintra and bustling Cascais.

Local points of interest from Aasta Schneider

  • The Sintra Natural Park , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an amazing refuge of ca 15 000 HA, with white dandy beaches, dramatic Atlantic coastline, magical forests, ancient historic sites, quaint villages, rare flora & fauna and lush year round greenery
  • This region is a paradise for walkers/cyclists looking for guided or self-guided holidays. A vast vareity of trails begin at our front gates. Also Surfing & other water sports, adventure tours, climbing, tennis, golf, horse riding, sightseeing etc
  • The Sintra region has the oldest wines, and some of the best, of Europe and many vineyards offer wine tours. There is a selection of excellent, small, family-run restaurants, And the area is a haven for foodies seeking organic, vegetarian/vegan meals.
  • The Sintra area offers many cultural activities: annual village festas, concerts, museums, street fairs & art exhibits. For relaxation there is yoga, in room massage: Ayuvedic or Hawaiian. Themed cooking classes and farmers markets.
  • The lovely seaside resort town of Cascais is only a 20 min drive away. Cascais offers beautiful beaches, a 12 km long coastline bike & walking path, lovely historic streets with great little shops to explore, over 502 restaurants, museums and art galler
  • Historic Sintra with its many palaces and attractions is only 20 min away. Lisbon is only 45 min away. The bustop is a 5 min walk from Colina Flora. Busses run every hour to Sintra and Cascais, so over 70% of our guests choose not to hire a car.

Introducing

Aasta Schneider

Aasta, James and their dog Lucca moved to Portugal nearly 10 years ago after falling in love with the region and the quinta. They run the B&B in an environmentally conscious way, with organic food, linen and cleaning supplies, a compost and recycling facilities, and future plans to install solar panels. They can ferry you to local restaurants if needed and have two vintage bikes for use too.
