So much to do here at this lovely country manor. Gaze over vines from terraces by pristine B&B rooms upstairs in the former winery, and pop downstairs to relax in a comfy living room. Breakfast inside or out with views of the Barrosa mountains, a lovely backdrop for your fresh fruit juice (perhaps a divine blackberry juice), homemade jams and pastries including delicious homemade custard tarts. Guests can dine too, on request – local dishes with vegetables and herbs from the garden, their own sparkling white wine, and red from the Douro valley. Generous-spirited owners Ana and Fernando enjoy sharing their peaceful manor; built in the 15th century, it’s been in Ana’s family for 18 generations, so is bursting with history and stories. They live just across a beautiful courtyard; further guest suites elsewhere share gardens and pool, and there’s a gite too, but plenty of space for all. Try traditional cookery, embroidery, gardening and port in Ana’s splendid workshops. To explore more, take a train ride to Porto, a boat tour or visit the local monastery; trekking, canoeing, riding and golf are all nearby too.
