The Experience

On the first street built by King Dom Manuel connecting the merchant area on the Douro with the 12th century cathedral. The feel now is private, smart yet relaxing as you step in to a very friendly welcome and… 16th century granite walls, ancient tile panels and stuccoes, super fabrics, paintings, antiques and objects collected from all over the world and displayed with great style by the owner. Whether you’ve chosen a suite with city or garden views, with balcony or patio; all are quiet and seductively comfortable, with marble bathrooms.

Breakfast continental-plus style at the convivial dining table decked with hand-painted porcelain or out in the small garden, or in your room, before heading out to explore. Staff will help plan your itinerary, book restaurants, beauty treatments, port tastings, a day trip up the Douro valley to Pinhão. Spend a while in the candlelit sitting area with its well-stocked honesty bar and fascinating décor before heading out to eat.

Introducing

Maria Irene Schultze

Maria Irene Schultze is Portuguese and was born in Porto. Widely travelled, she is passionate about art, history, travel and hospitality – and is an exceptional host. What is now the Maison Particulière caught her eye as a crumbling, historic beauty desperately in need of rescue. After 5 years of meticulous preservation and renovation work it’s now an outstanding setting for Maria’s hosting style
