The Experience

These three properties were built out of shale from the Quinta and blend into the landscape beautifully. They’re set far enough from each other to offer complete privacy, but can be hired together if you’re a large group.

Kind and welcoming Luis and his daughter live on-site and will welcome you with regional drinks and nibbles, and provide breakfast made with local produce – cured meats, cheeses, eggs, home-made cakes and jams. The main house is a show-stopper, with floor-to-window ceilings, a basement spa and a heated saltwater swimming pool, and the other two are studio apartments with equally fabulous views.

Cook for yourself in the well-equipped kitchen, engage the services of a chef or head to Pinhão, 15 minutes’ drive or 40 minutes’ walk, for a great restaurant called Taberna do Rio; Rui Paula’s famous DOC restaurant is just 30 minutes away. You’re surrounded by vineyards producing world-class wines and ports, most of them between 15 to 30 minutes’ away.

Accommodation

Reviews

The incredible and magnificent view from the Quinta, the unique coloured landscape with the terraced hillsides and vines, the simple luxury of the accomodation and its minimalistic decoration, the building's architecture and the perfection of every little detail, the warmest of welcomes and friendliness of the hosts, the Douro wine region and its fine Port wines, in fact the list is truly endless.

Location

The neighbourhood

The Douro River runs between the valley and has boats travelling up and down. The landscape is glorious, with terraced schist walls, olive groves, junipers and cork and orange trees, and if you visit in autumn you'll be able to see the many different colours and tones of the vines. There are several walking trails around the area, with the Casal de Loivos viewpoint just 300 metres away. The nearest town, Pinhão has a train station and grocery shops as well as restaurants.
