The Experience

You’re close to Porto, but it’s blissfully quiet. This 80-hectare organic farm, in the family for 600 years, sits in a wide and beautiful valley surrounded by ancient trees. The cottages are hidden well away from each other, and from the 15th-century house where the family lives; arrange to dine in the medieval kitchen. Casa de Soutelo, the largest, is 17th-century, solid and traditional – a typical Minho dwelling built of honey-coloured stone, and facing south. It has big comfortable bedrooms with separate bathrooms, an ample kitchen, a cosy sitting room with an open fire and a long wooden veranda looking down over woods and fields (a perfect spot for lunch). Casa da Bouça, once the farm manager’s house, is more contemporary and charming; Casa do Pastor is smaller and simpler. All houses have pools but Bouça’s is the most spectacular, built on a giant granite boulder. Your hosts are young people in love with nature, eager that you enjoy life on their farm. Sample Portuguese wines with José, an enologist; go adventuring on horseback (or donkeyback) with Francisco.

We had a wonderful time in this tranquil, rural part of Portugal that had many interesting cultural towns to visit nearby. It was very hot during our stay which meant we could benefit from the fantastic swimming pool (Bouca) carved into the rock. Much enjoyed the interesting tour by Maria's husband of his ancestral Quinta that ended with a twilight walk in the vast and magnificent forest at the back of the property. Maria and her family were friendly and hospitable and nothing was too much trouble. The children enjoyed the little dog that befriended us and accompanied us on our walks. Bliss

We spent 2 weeks in September in Casa da Bouça at Quinta de Pindela and had the most fabulous experience. The location is off the beaten track, as we wanted, and yet close to any amenity you might need. We spent lovely days exploring the towns of northern Portugal, interspersed with relaxing days on the property, by the pool. Maria was kind and attentive to our needs. The property is beautiful and our hosts were lovely. We can't wait to go back!

We stayed one week at Quinta de Pindela and loved Casa da Bouça. Wonderful, green, off the beaten track - just what we wanted! A fantastic place to explore surrounding market towns, the coast, Porto and the National Park. Kids loved the pool at the rock. Maria is a great host and the tour around the farm and forest was very interesting. There is much to see and enjoy - thank you!

We throughly enjoyed our stay at Quinta de Pindela, which is a green and tranquil place, blessed by birds and butterflies. Maria and Jose achieve a great balance of friendly helpfulness with a respect for your privacy. Many kind touches including homemade jam and fresh eggs. Looking forward to a return trip.

In august 2014 we stayed at the beautiful Quinta de Pindela. It's location is unique: quiet in the rural environment and still so close to many interesting things! The hosts Maria and José were very helpful. The house and its pool a piece of heaven on earth. Thanks we could stay with you!

We really enjoyed our time at Quinta de Pindela. We stayed at Casa de Pastor with our 2 small daughters who loved the swimming pool, the horses, donkeys and goats in the paddock next to the cottage and exploring the beautiful estate. Its a great spot to explore Northern Portugal from, as everything is only a short drive away, and there is so muxh to see. A big thumbs up from us.

We recently returned from a fantastic week at Pindela. Jose and Maria are great hosts. The property is beautiful, nicely furnished and a great pool, that the kids would not stay out of! Other than the pool highlights were the guided donkey rides and the interesting commentary Jose gave about the history of his family's estate. The area is unspoilt by mass tourism. The landscape is beautiful, there is history and culture, markets and brilliant restaurants in the area. Less than hours drive is the National Park where we spent the day swimming in waterfalls! The best holiday for a long time.

My family and I loved staying at Casa de Bouca. It's an oasis of calm and peace in a beautiful green valley, but still close to lots of interesting sights to visit. The house itself is beautifully designed, light, spacious and very comfortable - modern without feeling cold. Our hosts were utterly charming, extremely helpful and we cannot wait to go back!
