The Experience

Bikes are on the house so cycle around the estate: the owners will happily guide you. Dense with olive trees, cork oaks and vineyards, these 90 hectares (mercifully flat) are sprinkled with sheep and April’s wild flowers.

At the heart of this immaculate place lie a restored farmhouse and barn, 500m apart. The farmhouse has terraces facing north and south; the barn has a 70m2 veranda. They share a big beautiful garden, a wooden play area with a tree house, and a suave saltwater pool. Cool off in the poolside hammocks, enjoy a massage in the spa.

You can follow the wine route of the Alentejo, or get lost down the cobbled streets of Evora, World Heritage site. Stock up, or eat out, in hilltop Alvito, 10km. Viana de Alentejo is closer, a 15-minute stroll, for simple breakfast and dinner. You can also book meals on site.

It is a big estate, 90 hectare, one guesthouses a far from the main house and the other guesthouse you won´t interact easily with other guests.Except for the swimming pool there is no common space to meet other guests. The estate itself is beautiful, around the main house and the guesthouses is some grass and blossoming plants. There is a beautiful garden between the main house and the swimming pool. The swimming pool is in natural tones fitting in to the landscape. Also the interior of the guesthouse fitting in to the landscape and are luxury and spacious.

The neighbourhood

The estate spreads across the dry Alentejo landscape; explore on bikes, or ride. In spite of the sheep, goats and hens, it is immaculate throughout, and beautiful when the wild flowers bloom. For supermarkets, cafes, two restaurants and small shops, Viana de Alentejo (and its castle) is 2.5km. Also with a castle is the small town of Alvito (10km); and the Roman ruins of São Cucufate are nearby. For trains to Lisbon, Vila Nova da Baronia is 3km.

The Swiss owners lived and worked abroad for 25 years (South America and Asia) before retiring in Portugal. Warm and hospitable, they enjoy meeting their guests over a meal on arrival. Their two full-time staff speak Portuguese, and the owners are multi-lingual
