The Experience

Approach this sleepy Algarvian hamlet with adventure in your heart, through choppy green seas of cork oaks, carobs and eucalyptus, on lanes meant for carts not cars. Clouds of bougainvillea usher you into the cool sitting room of a prettily rustic house framed by chunky whitewashed walls, tiles, arches and traditional cane ceilings. A corner fire, bright art, sofas with ethnic throws: flop without fussing about footprints or fripperies.

Outside, a rooster crows…Outside, too, are a fenced pool gazing south, a terrace (partly covered for rainy days) for sunset sips and peaceful reads, a tree-shaded dining area, soul-boosting views. Meander past olives, kumquat, cactus, wild figs – no thirsty plants in this hot, breezy climate.

Walk for miles on marked trails, hire bikes and enjoy quiet roads, or just laze in the hammock, slip into the hot tub then fire up the barbecue for fresh fish from the local market. You’ll feel very Portuguese.

Reviews

Sometimes we discover a special place with a unique charm in a tranquil setting that ticks all the boxes for a perfect vacation. Casa Violeta is a traditional farmhouse that provides all the comfort and facilities we could wish for. Located in a small hamlet, the house interior is clean, comfortable, and very welcoming. The outside area is a Star feature, the Swimming Pool is so private with spectacular uninterrupted views towards the Forest beyond. The Kitchen opens onto a patio with a BBQ and dining table that is sandwiched between 2 mature Cork trees providing a canopy of shade. We love it.

Casa Violetta is truly idyllic, peaceful and the perfect escape. Having not been to Portual for 10 years it was wonderful to return and explore the towns and hills above the Algarve. The accommodation was perfect for the four of us and the children loved it! Especially the hot tub/pool and the chance to escape the midday sun in the homely sitting room to watch a film before exploring some of the pretty walks and trails accessible form Casa Violetta. Somewhere we'll definitely return to!

A great place to chill out - you can't hear any road noise, or any noise at all really apart from birds. The garden is pretty and the pool hard to resist. The villa is homely and cosy inside so even if the weather is bad you'll feel comfortable.

A truly tranquil place in the hills! Just returned from a very relaxing and comfortable stay in Casa Violeta, which is situated in an idyllic location. Mags and Ian made us feel very welcome and provide helpful information with good tips about restaurants etc. Everything was just spot on - so much so that we have already booked to return next year!

Casa Violeta is a hidden gem. Tucked away in the hills the complete peace and stillness allows you to completely relax. The house is very pretty and well equipped and the pool and hot tub are perfect to enjoy whatever the temperature. If you can tear yourself away from the property the surrounding towns and villages have plenty to explore and eating out is easy and inexpensive. The markets are fantastic for buying fresh produce to bring back for the barbecue. Mags and Ian are perfect hosts supplying a useful provisions and a friendly welcome.

On the first morning we woke up and booked next year before we got out of bed ! The house is perfect, incredible views all round. The pool is beautiful and the views from the hot tub stunning. There are orioles, nightingales and owls, plus a valley filled with flowers and bees. Lovely walks from the house and a log fire if it's cooler. We had a warm welcome from Mags and Ian, and a fantastic welcome pack. We bought local food at Sao Bras market as we love to cook and had bbqs on several evenings. Loved the place so much we hardly went out all week. Hope to return next year.

Superb location for bird watching and listening Excellently comfortable house with outdoor pool and hot tub [for bathing under the stars whilst listening to the nightingale sing] A wee gem of a property.

We enjoyed a wonderful ten day break at Casa Violeta. The villa is wonderfully appointed, in the hills, a short drive from Faro Airport. Great care has been taken to ensure everything you might need is provided and you cannot see another building from the pool. What more could you want ?!

Nick

After a short journey from the town of Sao Bras de Alportel we arrived at Casa Violeta, one house in a small hamlet perched perfectly on the hillside overlooking a stunning vista. Casa Violeta took our breath away: it is beautifully appointed, everything is thought of. Outside the pool area is fantastic, totally private (no-one overlooks except the darting birds). The hot tub affords full view of a star-filled sky at night. There are lovely outside spaces in shade and sun for eating, drinking, sun worshipping and well, just doing very little at all. A real gem. Please keep it a secret :)

We have just returned from Casa Violeta after having two chilled & peaceful weeks. Everything was even better than we thought. The views of the hills were amazing and beautifully painted chairs had been placed at the end of the pool to take in one of the delightful views, just right with a G & T on an evening. The house itself is lovely and a great deal of thought has gone into your needs. We spent most mornings walking and jogging along the many trails, picking figs & blackberries along the way. Nothing was too much trouble for Mags & Ian who came to our aid when we had tyre trouble .It was a great comfort to know they were around. We will certainly return to Casa Violeta, before too long.

Location

The neighbourhood

The house was built in 1932 in private gardens with country views. It is perfectly peaceful in a quintessential 'real Portugal' setting. The whitewashed hamlet of Cova da Muda sits on a ridge in the Serra do Caldeirão just ten minutes from São Brás. Here you can find a great market for masses of wonderful local produce such as cheeses, fresh fish and artisanal fare. Hiking and biking from the house are sublime. A new spa 'Wild View' is nearby in Corgas Bravas.
