The Experience

Wherever you choose to stay you get a continental breakfast of fresh breads, natural yogurt, jams and honey, local meats and cheeses, fresh oranges from the orchard, figs and lemons in season. If you want something more robust then just ask Charlie ahead and he can rustle up scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, even a glass of fizz to go with it. The main house has a reading room, a grand reception hall and a self-contained studio apartment with its own kitchen.

Bedrooms with very thick walls are all a good size with high, beamed ceilings, lovely old shutters and tiled floors, TVs, comfortable seating and the means to make coffee and tea, so you’ll feel quite private. Arrange yoga, breathwork or a massage in the converted barn in the grounds or simply wander through the expansive grounds finding the plunge pool and pétanque pitch.

Walk through the orange groves and undulating hills with stunning views, hearing nothing but birdsong.

A completely divine guest house with gorgeous comfortable rooms and lovely atmosphere, very professionally run by Charlie… Definitely a little bit of paradise in the Algarve.

Location

The neighbourhood

It's peaceful here, away from the hustle and bustle with no immediate neighbours. You can hire bikes and cycle to Tavira in 20 minutes to discover the restored castle ramparts, pretty cobbled streets and churches, the river meandering through it all. South of Tavira there is the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa which leads to some perfect sandy beaches for wonderful days at the seaside.

Local points of interest from Charles Robbins

  • Unique and bursting with character, Quinta da Colina sits within a delightful Algarvian landscape of undulating hills, pretty farmsteads and orange groves and is within easy reach of fabulous beaches, scenic fishing villages and charming Tavira.
  • Nearby beautiful Tavira is rich in history, home to handsome architecture, a bohemian atmosphere and offers countless dining options, from traditional back street eateries to Michelin star haute cuisine.
  • The local coastline encompasses the Ria Formosa natural park, a stunning natural environment of lagoons, islets, sand islands and home to an impressive array of marine and birdlife.
  • Visit the morning market in Tavira for local colour and atmosphere to purchase seasonal and locally produced vegetables, fruits, meats and of course, when in Portugal freshly caught fish and seafood.
  • See more on two wheels! Hire a bike and explore the Ecovia along the coast, through local salt marches, taking in the Ria Formosa natural park and more...
  • Enjoy a boat trip out to sea and witness dolphins in their natural environment, or for the less adventurous, take a trip across the lagoons of the Ria Formosa on an Eco solar powered boat..

Introducing

Charles Robbins

Charlie manages the bookings and guest experience, but the house was bought by George and Tassie over 20 years ago, who also ran the estate as a guest house for many years. George is an architect and he redesigned the site from old ruins, combining traditional materials with modern touches. They have a passion for Portugal, nature and horses, are still very much involved with the house and live further up the coast.
