The Experience

Hats off to Júlio and Jill: their Quinta, among groves of olive, almond and orange trees, is one of the most convivial of the Algarve. Bedrooms are in a converted barn and stables, and have their own little terrace overlooking the gardens. Find a charming Algarve-rustic style inside – white walls are sprinkled with art and beautiful country antiques; shower rooms have Santa Caterina tiles.

Feast on a generous breakfast of pastries, fruit, breads, yogurts, eggs and bacon on the rooftop terrace-with-views (or in the cosy dining room on those rare fresher days). Get to know other guests over the twice-weekly dinners showcasing Júlio’s Portuguese cooking.

Cool off in the pool; relax in the hydromassage jacuzzi and subtropical garden of palm, geranium, pine and jasmine. For the kids, there’s also a grassy lawn for games and a small playground. Stroll into Odiáxere for bars, shops and restaurants – it’s only a 25-minute walk.

Julio and Jill were exceptionally welcoming, and at very short notice! We had a lovely stay at the Quinta das Achadas, the facilities are excellent. The rooms are nicely furnished and the pool was was a further highlight. I highly recommend this place as a great place to stay with a homely atmosphere.

Informal, relaxing, all in the family, beautifull garden, swimming pool and hot tub. It is all there. Don’t expect a 4 minute boiled egg, but relax and rely on what is going to happen. A perfect place for getting out the daily rush. Easy going and a warm welcome. You will be taken care for.

Having just returned from a perfect 2 week October stay at the Quinta, I felt I needed to write another review just reiterate how much we truly love this special place and all the surrounding area. We are seasoned travellers but the homely comforts and hospitality of Jill and Julio keep drawing us back for more. Whether you just want to relax around the pool or shady cabana, do some of the spectacular beach, coastal or hill walks or just wander around some of the quaint towns and villages or drive out to the spectacular west coast, this really is the perfect place to stay.

We had a wonderful holiday at quintas achadas. The location was perfect near enough to shops but off the beaten track. The accommadation was spacious, clean and well equipped. The children's play area and swimming pool were great. Breakfast was delicious as were the two evening meals prepared by Jill and Julio. All of which helped to make this our best family holiday so far - would definitely go back

The Quinta das Achadas is an ideal base for exploring the western Algarve. After a day exploring it is a relaxing haven of peace and quiet. Jill and Julio are excellent hosts. During the week we stayed we enjoyed three meals with the other guests with our hosts also partaking. These were entertaining and relaxing evenings. The welcome 'hamper' provided, in the fridge, was plentiful and lasted us for three evening meals. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Mimosa is spacious with a pleasant decor. We would love to return if we revisit the area and would recommend it to everyone.

second visit to Julio and Jill and as much fun as the last time (9/2012). Had an excellent room with huge lounge and kitchen area, excellent if you dont want to go out every night and also had wonderful meal on their balcony with all other guests, a feature of the package. Life is very informal which really suits us and one can mingle with other guests, we were the pensioners, others were with young families which was fun but Julio and Jill cater for all tastes provided informality is what you want - we love it and more than likely will go again. PS: take Julio's advice on car hire,

Lovely stay in April with our 2 year old daughter in one of the Apartments. The breakfasts were delicious, as were the two evening meals we had. The owners Jill and Julio could not do enough to make the stay enjoyable - even buying new toys for our daughter. There is easy access to Lagos and the West Coast from the accommodation and lots of recommendations for places to visit and eat. Alternatively, you can relax in the lovely surroundings and swim in the pool, which was great fun for our daughter.

This is a great little find. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Quinta in late February. Jill and Julio could not have been better hosts. From ensuring we were well stocked with logs for our cosy wood burning stove to providing fresh eggs from their chickens for breakfast and providing home cooked meals and fine wine. Julio booked our hire car which we picked up at the airport and used on our excellent daily walks in the mountains and coast. A lovely February escape from the British winter. Must go back in the spring/summer when we can try out the pool, jacuzzi and outdoor lounge.

We really loved the relaxed and atmosphere here. Jill and Julio could not have done more to make our holiday a good one. Our apartment was spacious and comfortable. Our only slight minus point, was that we were a little cold at night in our apartment in November. We would love to return to the Quinta which has a wonderful and unique feel to it.

This was our third visit to Jill & Julio's but our first 2 week stay and with our friends from California in tow. We love the peaceful setting of the Quinta and the apartments and rooms are superb. The location is perfect for exploring the quieter end of the Algarve. Each year we still find different coves, villages and new restaurants to visit, all delightful with some of our favourites being in Odiaxere itself. But the highlight is always the camaraderie between Jill & Julio and the rest of the guests. Would I recommend this place to stay - a definite yes.

We found Jill and Julio through Alistair Sawday around 10 years ago and have stayed more than 6 times , sometimes with family or friends, sometimes just the 2 of us. It has always been delightful .A great breakfast environment, comfortable and flexible accommodation, the swimming pool , and outdoors jacuzzi , the lovely flowers and trees -- a relaxing environment. above all the evening meals- good food, varied company , good wine and lively , considerate hosts .We love the western Algarve and this Quinta is a great base for exploring it , though you need to drive .

We had been given rave reviews and our accommodation and welcome backed these up in spades. We thoroughly enjoyed our communal dinners - the cooking was excellent and our hosts and fellow guests made for lively discussion and rather late nights. We loved the gardens and pool and the friendly dogs just added to the overall ambience of the place. The Quinta is in a perfect place to explore the whole of the Algarve. During our stay we visited Tavira in the East and up to Odeceixe on the West Coast. None of our trips involved driving over an hour in any direction - perfect)

The neighbourhood

The Quinta is delightfully rural and peaceful, however there’s lots to keep everyone happy, with a pool, BBQ and an outdoor cinema space. When you’re craving that salty air, mosey down to the beaches – you’re brilliantly placed for exploring the Atlantic coast (7km), an idyll for surfing, kayaking and dolphin watching. Head into Odiáxere or Lagos beforehand to pick up snacks for a picnic (2km).

Jill, Júlio & Isabella Pires

Charming Jill and Júlio will look after you well – they used to work in the restaurant trade, so expertly combine professionalism with a warm human touch. You’ll be welcomed with big smiles and their friendly dogs and cats; their twice-weekly dinners en famille are delicious and generous.
