Hats off to Júlio and Jill: their Quinta, among groves of olive, almond and orange trees, is one of the most convivial of the Algarve. Bedrooms are in a converted barn and stables, and have their own little terrace overlooking the gardens. Find a charming Algarve-rustic style inside – white walls are sprinkled with art and beautiful country antiques; shower rooms have Santa Caterina tiles.
Feast on a generous breakfast of pastries, fruit, breads, yogurts, eggs and bacon on the rooftop terrace-with-views (or in the cosy dining room on those rare fresher days). Get to know other guests over the twice-weekly dinners showcasing Júlio’s Portuguese cooking.
Cool off in the pool; relax in the hydromassage jacuzzi and subtropical garden of palm, geranium, pine and jasmine. For the kids, there’s also a grassy lawn for games and a small playground. Stroll into Odiáxere for bars, shops and restaurants – it’s only a 25-minute walk.
