Lawns run down to the harbour wall and views flood in via floor-to-ceiling glass - a backdrop to food of the highest and freshest calibre

The Old Coastguard hugs the coast and gazes east towards St Michael's Mount and the Lizard peninsula. The lush palm-filled garden has lawns that run down to the harbour wall and just offshore lies St Clement's Isle, former home to an ancient hermit. Charles and Edmund are bringing their unique style and experience to this large Victorian building. Views flood in to the bar and restaurant via floor to ceiling glass windows and there's an effortless informality to the airy interiors. You can expect food of the highest and freshest calibre: scallops with courgette and basil butter, chorizo and almond crusted hake, or white bean and garlic stew, then pistachio cake with crème fraîche sorbet and fennel. There's a well-chosen wine list, plus local ales, ciders and much more. The Penwith peninsular beckons so head west for the Minack theatre, then north to Zennor and St Ives. Wonderful.
