A 16th-century coaching inn, transformed into a fabulously well-priced foodie pub and bustling real ale bar just off the A30

It was an inspired move to transform the 16th-century coaching inn where John Wesley once preached into a warm and stylish pub-restaurant. A menu carefully-curated by head chef Andrew Dudley draws an appreciative crowd, and food is available all day. Low stripped beams, half-panelled walls hung with modern art, fresh flowers, candle-studded pine tables and soothing lighting make this place a pleasure to walk into. Friendly staff serve freshly-cooked seasonal meals at sensible prices – take hand-pressed burgers made with Cornish beef, or risotto of the day with locally-grown, organic vegetables. There are beetroot and gin-cured salmon sandwiches at lunch, and delicious desserts after – the sticky toffee pudding is a huge favourite. The central bar is homely with a good local clientele, subtle music and Sharp's Doom Bar on tap.

Local points of interest from
Daniel Trotter - The Plume of Feathers:

  • The Plume of Feathers was originally a 16-century coaching inn which has been lovingly renovated bridging the gap between boutique B&B and traditional Cornish Pub.
  • Part of the restaurant is actually built directly over a natural spring well. Do you dare to gaze through the glass into its depths below? Come take a look next time you are visiting.
  • We are only a 20-minute drive from Newquay and Truro, so if you need a long Cornish lunch after a busy day or just a quick pint on your way through, The Plume of Feathers is the perfect stop gap for your day out and about.
