The Plume of Feathers - Pub in Cornwall

Mitchell, Newquay, TR8 5AX, Cornwall
England, United Kingdom

A 16th-century coaching inn, transformed into a fabulously well-priced foodie pub and bustling real ale bar just off the A30

It was an inspired move to transform the 16th-century coaching inn where John Wesley once preached into a warm and stylish pub-restaurant. Imaginative cooking draws an appreciative crowd and in summer food is available all day. Low stripped beams, half-panelled walls hung with modern art, fresh flowers, candle-studded pine tables and soothing lighting make this place a pleasure to walk into; it's novel and it's fun. Delightful staff serve freshly cooked local produce at sensible prices – take Cornish fishcakes with sweet chilli sauce and dressed leaves, or grilled Dover sole with lemon butter. There are thick bacon sandwiches at lunch and delicious puddings after – the sticky toffee pudding is a huge favourite. The central bar is lively with TV, piped music and Sharp's Doom Bar on tap. Good value.

Local points of interest from
Daniel Trotter:

  • The Plume of Feathers was originally a 16-century coaching inn which has been lovingly renovated bridging the gap between boutique B&B and traditional Cornish Pub.
  • Part of the restaurant is actually built directly over a natural spring well. Do you dare to gaze through the glass into its depths below? Come take a look next time you are visiting.
  • Did you know we cater for functions; wedding, conferences, businesses and much more. With our light and airy conservatory for large parties or just having a business breakfast by the fire. The Plume can cater for your needs..
  • We are only a 20-minute drive from both Newquay and Truro, so if you need a long Cornish lunch after a busy day or just a quick pint on your way through, The Plume of Feathers is the perfect stop gap for your day out and about.
