Drop off for a pint on the coastal path, or more - this ancient, fire-warmed inn serves beautiful modern Cornish cuisine. It’s a happy ship

With glorious Mount's Bay down the lane, this striking village inn draws the crowds. Arrive early and bag a seat in the stone-walled bar by the log-burner, or in the sunny sunken garden. Chef-landlord Nik Boyle is making waves locally, using the best Cornish ingredients for bang-up-to-date food. For ale-lovers there's Doom Bar or Sail Loft on tap, a perfect match for steamed Porthilly mussels. Cooking moves up a gear in the evenings, so try honey and truffle whipped goat's cheese mousse with chicory, pear and walnuts, followed by roasted artichoke and garden pea tagliatelle. Dogs will want to nab one of the biscuits behind the bar, jealously guarded by Monty the spaniel. Built originally to house the masons extending the church in the 12th century, this very old pub is one happy ship.
