The Church House Inn - Pub in Devon
The Rattery, South Bren, TQ10 9LD, Devon
England,
United Kingdom
Once an ale house for 12th-century masons building the village church, the old place was ‘modernised’ in the 1600s; its big beams and fireplaces remain. Now it’s one of the nicest pubs around, snapped up in 2015 by landlords John Edwards and son Will (a lovely pair). Horse-brasses line the bar, fires roar in winter, the produce comes from South Devon, the ales are Otter, Dartmoor and Shingle Bay, the cider’s from Ashburton and the ginger beer is Luscombe. We loved the look of the monthly changing menu - short, fresh and seasonal – and all is imaginatively presented (our ‘hog roast’ sandwich, with apple sauce and crackling, was delicious). Bring the dog - it’s a walkers’ paradise, and the tables in the beer garden overlook the South Hams hills.
