Smart country inn with seasonal food, Sharp’s Brewery beers and lovely puddings. Events, live music, walks on the moors

Lively white-washed village pub in between Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks. Simon and Darren have carefully renovated this 17th-century old coaching inn from top to toe. Bar and dining areas have cushioned chairs, polished wood floors, sofas by wood-burners and tables laid with shiny glasses. There’s a sunny paved garden too with cheerful red walls, pots of flowers and bunting. Seasonal food sourced nearby is the ethos, and the menu is generous and fun: charcuterie boards, scallops with crispy pork belly, goat’s cheese brûlée with a pistachio crust, confit Creedy duck, Exmoor beef bourguignon; fat sandwiches come with hand cut chips and leaves and puddings are pretty. Locals mix with visitors and there are lots of events, live music, tapas nights; North Devon sandy beaches are a short drive and walks on the moors are right there.

  • This 17th Century Coaching Inn has been tastefully restored by the current owners to now offer a eclectic mix of antique with the new. Uneven walls, and beams are complemented with hints of modern comforts. Open fires and welcoming atmosphere add to this!
  • We have a Secret Garden that has been designed in a style that will surely take you back to your Mediterranean holidays; perfect place to enjoy a gin from our ever-popular gin menu.
  • One of our bedrooms has adopted the nick-name of 'Bednobs and Broomsticks' due to its brass bednobs and king size, plus its' recent inglenook fireplace with functioning wood-burning stove.
  • Since taking over the property in June 2015 the owners have completely transformed this coaching inn to it's former glory including unearthing a 17th Century flagstone floor; which had been buried under a concrete floor.
  • In the first 16 months of trading, this ever-popular Inn has grown and grown resulting in AA 5 star guest accommodation rating and 2 AA rosette for culinary excellence. Not bad in less than 2 years!
  • The key point of operating to the owners and in turn the staff at this one-of-a-kind inn is ensuring you are in a home away from home.... comforts, relaxing atmosphere and welcome to all, with a twist of finesse. The perfect elements to a perfect escape.
