The Five Alls - Pub in Gloucestershire
Filkins, Lechlade, GL7 3JQ, Gloucestershire
England,
United Kingdom
The Snows have swapped the Swan at Southrop for a handsome 18th-century pub in postcard-pretty Filkins. The faded old coaching inn is back on track, once again full of warmth and personality. The bar throngs with locals and foaming pints of Brakspear, there are 15 wines by the glass and proper bar food: devilled kidneys on toast, hearty soups, fish and chips. Bright cotton cushions on cosy leather sofas front the inglenook, candles glow in lanterns and soft music plays; arrive early if you fancy a pre-dinner drink. Then it's into the dining room for Italian inspired British dishes – potted shrimps; roast lamb with beans, mash and salsa verde; drunken panna cotta with raspberries – served at old dining tables. Heaps of charm too, thanks to rugs on stone floors, modern art on stone walls and jugs of fresh flowers.
