The Highlander - Pub in Hertfordshire
45 Upper Tilehouse Street, Hitchin, SG5 2EF, Hertfordshire
England,
United Kingdom
The Prutton family have been running this wonderful pub for over 30 years. Now the new generation – the Anglo-French partnership of Charlotte and Eric, back from several years in the Alps – add youthful energy and culinary skill to the family provenance. Their passion shines through. This is an unpretentious local that moves with the times and there's an informal Gallic bistro feel to the place. Stand over your pint at the bar, or settle back into one of the settles; read the papers, scan the menu. Behind the immaculate bar, all aubergine and white, wines are enticingly displayed, local art hangs on the walls. Eric's delicious food fuses the best traditions of France and England, from tasty ploughman's to duck leg confit with Sarladaise potatoes & red wine jus – and Sunday lunches worth missing breakfast for.
