Fish from Brixham, partridge from Burford and specials that change twice a day – brilliant food at a big happy pub near Oxford

Read guest comments

From the Oxford sausages at breakfast to the home-cured meats and the home-baked focaccia, this is the place for nose-to-tail dining – and our rabbit ballotine with wild mushroom salad and truffle oil was fabulous. It's an old Cotswolds inn in a suburb of Oxford on the footpath to Port Meadow, and if you just fancy a pint and a pot of chipolatas, you're still in for a treat: the ales change daily and the chipolatas are from the garden (they keep pigs and hens). Inside all is airy, rustic, beautiful, with old tongue-and-groove walls and wide plank floors, books to read, chesterfields to recline on, and a fair few stuffed animals on the walls (very à la mode). Dogs doze by the fire, children tuck into baby burgers, and in summer you spill into the grounds, with picnic tables, deckchairs and great big terrace.

  • Oxford. We are only a few miles from the dreaming spires. Take the 35 bus towards Wolcote, a taxi or walk across historic port meadow.
  • Jacobs Inn is located next to a beautiful area known as Port meadow, ideal for taking a stroll after a long lunch.
  • The Cotswolds. Jacobs Inn sits on the edge of the Cotswolds, an area with chocolate box villages and charming market towns.

Guest feedback
"I’ve got to be honest, I have always past this place by and headed for the Trout at Godstow purely for the location. Having not been able to eat outside at the Trout (or inside either) looked like a coach party ,I headed out to give Jacobs a try. Very good initial contact (lacking at The Trout) and steered straight to a table. Very good attentive service. And my son tucked into fish and chips. It was very good value and a very nice vibe. I saw a table football outside so some fun touches. This is my first choice from now on. They are really keen to succeed and it clearly shows."
